Got 'em all, too, over the last few weeks, but only a couple have the spine prob. I'm impressed Crit is doing something about it, and I won't miss the cover art for a couple of blus for a few weeks . It is annoying to have raggedy-spined blus on the shelf.

I was able to pick up The Samurai Trilogy and Great Dictator today. Unfortunately neither the $8 off $40 or more nor the 50%, 40%, 30% etc... worked. Got to use the $5 off $50 which was pretty lame but helpful. Anyone else running into trouble with these coupons?

Anyway, had to leave a few titles behind until I can try them at another store tomorrow. Can't decide which title(s) to get next; I'm actually doing a bit of blind buying if I choose these:

Three Colors Trilogy
Belle de Jour
The Rules of the Game
(all French oddly enough)

But I've seen these and still can't decide:

Complete Jean Vigo
David Lean Directs Coward
Island of Lost Souls

And there you have it. I can only make one more trip without the wifey (pregnant btw) getting too upset. Need help!

I'd go Gold Rush next. Less topical than Dictator.
Thanks RojD!

Thanks to you (and Darkcritic) for the advice. I have had "Ashes and Diamonds" on my wishlist at Amazon.uk for some time now and will be purchasing this soon after I pick up a few more Criterions during the sale.

One's the full edition with special features and one is the Essential Art House release which is a barebones DVD.

I enjoy atmospheric films, recent one being The Tree of Life, so what do you think?

it's kind of hard to follow on the first viewing, but where I think it differs from mind benders is that there isn't really any kind of "game" being played with the film. Everything actually is as it seems, it is just happens to be very odd situation and told in a very different way. I just rewatched it last night, it is a gorgeous blu.

As I said a few weeks ago; I finally gave in and re bought Band of Outsiders on dvd so it is pretty much a sure thing we'll get an English friendly blu ray soon just so I can bang my head against the wall.

I love all the Kieslowski's movies I have seen but for some reason Veronique never struck a chord with me. I can see all the elements are good it just doesn't click for me the way his other movies do.

It has a brilliant soundtrack though.

I am always surprise to see Rashomon over The Hidden Fortress, I always believed The Hidden Fortress was the more popular

These four would definitely be pre-order material for me.

Just watched Rules of the Game. Didn't care much for it to be honest. Partner loved it though. She loves Anna Karenina and Altman so I'm not surprised.

Modern Times.

I'm going to go ahead and tell everyone here. If you come in this forum with a list of titles you are thinking about getting and that list includes 3 colors. Everyone is going to tell you to get 3 colors.

Besides Three Colors Trilogy I'd suggest Belle de Jour. I haven't finished watching David Lean Directs Noel Coward yet so its hard to recommend at this point. Besides that I think its a toss up between Rules of the Game and Island of Lost Souls. I really enjoyed both. Rules of the Game seems to get mixed reactions, but I thought it was brilliant. As for IOLS I've always been a sucker for Charles Laughton and this is one of his best performances IMO. I know how well Vigo is held in high esteem, but the set really didn't do anything for me. For silent films I'd much rather have the Josef von Sternberg set on Bluray.

What are the chances of Criterion releasing these movies on Blu-ray:
- Le Million
- La Strada

Likely or slim? I'm thinking of picking them up during the sale, but I'm afraid right when I buy it, they'll announce that they are getting Blu-ray releases. (This is the exact thing that happened to me when I bought the Children of Paradise DVD last year.)

All those titles are great but if I had to choose just 3 I would go with your top three choices: However, if there is any way to squeeze out one more title please consider Complete Jean Vigo . It was a blind buy for me and it is truly fantastic.
