Likely or slim? I'm thinking of picking them up during the sale, but I'm afraid right when I buy it, they'll announce that they are getting Blu-ray releases. (This is the exact thing that happened to me when I bought the Children of Paradise DVD last year.)
Buy them so we get the updates then!

Banned User is absolutely correct in his sentiment, and I'm very much agreed for both these sets: The Three Colors boxset and The Complete Jean Vigo represent the pinnacle of the Criterion brand in terms of film and supplements, and receive my highest of recommendations.

And uhhh, pick up Le Samourai, L'Avventura, L'Eclisse, Jules and Jim, and Shoot the Piano Player while you're at it. All the Sirks too, if you can squeeze 'em in.

Does anybody think a movie like the original 1974 version of "The Longest Yard" with Burt Reynolds would have a chance at being released by Criterion? It's another of my old favorites that seems to get ignored. I'd love to see it offered on bluray by somebody (anybody?) who would be willing to stuff it with special features.

Anything could happen, as long as WB don't own the titles. prefer this version too, but wouldn't call it a favourite film. Criterion have released a lot of surprises, I mean they did allow the Monkees into the collection, and I am eternally grateful for that.

Looks like StudioCanal have got the worldwide rights to the Tati catalog so, presumably, the Criterion releases will be going OOP soon.

I still have Night of the Hunter, 39 Steps and Seven Samurai on my radar.
So I picked up the following today @ B&N to go with my earlier haul above:

Night of the Hunter
Seven Samurai
Paths of Glory
The 39 Steps

I also ordered shipped to store the following:

The Seventh Seal
Three Outlaw Samurai

I got pretty good deals on them, but I will save that for the other thread.

I've gotten pretty much everything I wanted to get at this point. I am still thinking about getting the following:

Samurai Trilogy
America Lost and Found: The BBS Story (which I could get for $36.99)

Recommendations for one or both? I would appreciate it! Thanks!

Well, then I'd like to thank you for your sacrifice .

Not a Criterion release (maybe someday? ) but I saw the original version of THX 1138 yesterday, and I was kind of ambivalent about it. It was great what a first time director like George Lucas was at the time, could pull off with basically no money at all, but the entire thing felt a bit disjointed to me. Shots and scenes being there for no apparent reason. Also I felt it was just too weird. Now, I don't mind that normally, but here it seemed that it was there for really no reason. It did have some very nice ideas about consumerism and society in general, but if your movie is that unfocused, it just turns into a mess. The love between THX and LUH isn't that convincing either.
Now of course it was his first movie. Maybe now that Lucas is going to retire from Lucasfilm that he'll finally return to making small personal movies?
Or maybe just hand over a bag of money for Coppola to finish whatever big project he has envisioned?

Samurai trilogy is a blind buy for me, but you can't go wrong with Toshiro Mifune.

Buy BBS, and I'm saying that not only as a Monkees fan, but as a new Hollywood fan. Head, Five Easy Pieces and King of Marvin Gardens are outstanding. The last Picture Show is great, Easy Rider is good, Drive, He Sais is ok. A Safe Place sucks but the others more than make up for it. The bonus features are outstanding too.

Would it be wise to stick to the barebones Rashomon and wait for some sort of BR release if there are plans for any?

I am a huge fan of the Forbidden Forest and can't wait to own it in Blu. I have been putting off on watching my criterion DVD, but one of these days I'll cave in. Has anybody found "hints" about the upcoming releases?

There's now some intense speculation that since this
[Show spoiler]
to Mulholland Drive on Youtube has been deleted due to infringement claims from Criterion and NBC/Universal (the rightsholders to the film in the US, with whom Criterion does have a relationship), that this will soon be Criterion-ized.

Honestly, practically nothing they could announce on Monday would top that for me, if true* - except like a homerun batch of my five most wanted upgrades and Greed. And I have the pretty good Studio Canal disk.

*Now, this user had other Criterion films uploaded so therein could lie the Criterion claim, but it's still interesting nonetheless that Criterion and NBC/Universal are the only two parties at play here.

B&N has the same cover for both Rashomon versions (when you click on them, it's the proper one in listings) do you think they'd be smart enough to actually give me the version I order? I don't want the Essential Art House one.

It's the last Kurosawa Criterion I need. I have all the Ozu's, Bergman, etc. figured I'd finally finish it.

I hope this mean's a release of Les Vacances De Monsieur Hulot soon on Blu-ray, not going to lie I would prefer a Criterion release but I won't say no to a Studio Canal

Only time will tell . Everyone, go grab a copy of Playtime before it is too late ! I am glad I already have this release, don't want to be again in the OOP debate scenario.

Also, I would like to add another guess to the October slate. What about the long-rumored Pierre Etaix Eclipse? I definitely hope so .
