I used to love Siskel's occasional 'well of course it sucked but so what, it was fun' tweaks at Ebert.

I'm assuming you're referring to the Kill Bills? To those I'd say that they were nothing more than Tarantino compiling a mix tape of his favorite scenes from other films, and in the end, even with the first being practically non-stop action, as a fan of the films he 'borrowed from', I found them tedious and boring. Stylish? Yes, to an extent (he even took some of that from the originals). But, "capture the spirit and the fun of those films in an interesting shell of your own making"? In my opinion, and I realize it isn't in the majority, but not even close.
Loved True Romance, Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction (must have seen it 6 or 7 times in the theater, with 3 viewings in opening weekend alone), so I'm not a hater, just lost respect for him when he got lazy and started claiming the work of others as his own, be it outright theft or self proclaimed homage. |

I was in NYC when Lincoln Center had a retrospective of his work, but I just did not have the time available to take in any of the films (especially this one considering its length). |

I mean because you're wrong.
In your post you stated both that you're a fan of the movies that he lifted scenes from and also that he made a movie entirely from a mix of these scenes. This should make it very easy for you to give a single example of one scene in Kill Bill which which is directly lifted from another movie. |

I wouldn't say that he is "trying to start shit." You willingly posted your opinion of Kill Bill on the internet. It is to be expected that somebody will disagree with your opinion and ask you to back it up.

I posted my opinion, he challenged it. The way he phrased it, as well as adding the word 'directly' (which he did again in his demeaning follow-up) gave me the impression it wasn't merely an 'oh, and why do you feel that way' comment, but rather an invite to a never-ending pissing contest. I don't enjoy wasting my time feeding trolls.

For those with access to TCM/TCM-HD and needing a large binge of Marilyn Monoe...they are running a number of her films from now (12:00 PM EST) until midnight...starting with River of No Return (with Robert Mitchum). Anyone needing a Billy Wilder fix can check out The Seven Year Itch and Some Like It Hot from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Enjoy! |
