I just finished watching Yi Yi earlier today and I am absolutely in love! I don't like automatically putting films on any top list at all without further viewings, but I doubt this one will have any trouble getting into my top 10. It was so beautiful, funny, touching and...I am just at a loss for words. I want to watch more films like this!

Yi Yi is next up on my list as I work through my backlog of unwatched blind buy Criterions from last November's B&N sale. My new rule is no watching my newly acquired July titles until after I watch what I already have.

For some reason I was never in the mood to watch Yi Yi. Some of that has to do with finding the time to watch films longer than two hours with work and personal obligations getting in the way of movie watching, plus I have lots of other stuff to watch too.

Recently, I started doing something I never used to do with long films - watching them over a couple of nights (duh!). This weekend, I plan to sit down with Yi Yi and watch it straight through.

Also another note for those who don't like the artwork for HEAVEN'S GATE, please note that with the exception of the title font, this was the artwork that they used for the initial teaser poster. I think it makes it look classy!

The way it grips you, you won't be able to not want to complete it! It's so beautiful and just...ugh, marvelous.

That's "Wild" cherry Pepsi...... they step it up a notch.

I too liked Crystal Pepsi when it was around, although I rarely was allowed to drink a soda during that time.

Since we're on "OOP greatness" I'll throw out "Texas Grill Fritos" WAY better than the honey-BBQ or whatever the 'replacement' was once they lost the Reba McIntyre endorsement.

Hey, "Week End" on BD? Giddy-up!

Does anyone know what the chances are of the Rossellini War Trilogy getting upgraded anytime soon, if at all?

It was a "Blu-ray era" release on DVD, so I highly doubt it would be even on the radar for a BD upgrade.

Am I the only one who wishes they would have went all blu back then? It really is too bad they chose to go DVD only on some titles during the switch over.

No, I do too. I would kill to have Magnificent Obsession, The Friends Of Eddie Coyle and White Dog on Blu.

Yes, such an amazingly multifaceted, utterly moving film. I'm really hoping some (any!) other Yang films get decent releases some time soon.

I don't know what you might be familiar with, but I'd recommend A City of Sadness (Hou Hsiao-Hsien), The World (Jia Zhangke), and most of Ozu's films. And Apichatpong Weerasethakul's work, though quite different than all of the above, occasionally affects me in somewhat similar ways.

Next time have your store special order for pick-up titles it doesn't have in stock — and/or order online.

Deserving of a release? sure. He did say release(S) as well so he is talking about more than one of the announcements, hence obviously putting down Pasolini, Godard, or Kurosawa. Take your choice in which of the "many less deserving" he is talking about in favor of Lynch. Why I thought it was a joke.

Mulholland Drive:

Now, can anyone show me where we can get this cut of Heaven's Gate Criterion is releasing?

I can't really be bothered reading through all these posts, but I recently got a region free blu-ray player mostly so I can start my Criterion collection which I'm pumped about but unfortunately I just missed the last B&N sale so I was wondering if you guys knew when the next one would be (if they're usually the same times each year), and whether the usual 50% off sale applies to online orders aswel. Thankyou

I'm not a big fan of the 'more deserving' game but one could point to stuff like Traffic, Dazed and Confused, Fear and Loathing, The Blob, The Game, Blow Out, Something Wild and so forth and so on and make a 'well, wtf, why not this too' case for pretty much anything, no?

I mean, they're releasing Weekend twice in the space of a couple months.

What's up with that???
