Yeah I just had a look at their site. Strangely the same items listed there are your typical non-sale Criterion prices. Very tempted to buy a few as the Int Shipping is pretty cheap too....

His best deal is potentially the Pigs, Pimps and Prostitutes Box Set, which goes for around $45. He's selling it for $8! By the looks of it he only has one, sorry to say I bagged it guys

Also got a few of the Blus, worst case they're bootlegs and I return them. At that price I can afford to find out. His feedback is great but I've had a few bootlegs (never Criterion mind) from sellers with high feedback, usually because their bootlegs are so authentic looking. Always got my cash back though.

Oh and thanks for the tip Billzfan.

Yeah criterion needs to rescue Greed. Bring us the 9.5 hour cut and that will be release of the year. Scratch that... the Decade.

The few times I've been burned by bootlegs (or been HIGHLY suspicious) were from ebay sellers with hugely positive feedback (in some cases with 20,000+ feedbacks and ratings in the very high 90's). They could be more sophisticated and offer more convincing dupes. If they do a good enough job, only a trained eye would detect them. Not all bootlegs are going to have chinese text and typos all over the case that scream "hey sucker, you just bought a bootleg copy!"

Anybody see this?
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertain...icle-1.1148828

So this is the same directors cut on the coming Criterion release or different? I'm confused even the older DVD releases were 216 minutes as this is.

This. It's usually the disc that gives them away, the packaging is often very convincing. What gives me confidence is 95% of his Criterion stock is regularly priced, it's just a handful of titles that are nutters low. Maybe he thinks they'll make good loss leaders, or maybe he accidentally received more stock of these than he paid for himself.

Yeah I'm going to take a shot on two titles as well. But I'm not sure what to think until I actually get the discs. I have heard of this company before, but clearly these prices are "too good to be true" for legitimate brand new stock. Maybe it's a price mistake and I will get legit titles at a too good to be true price, or maybe they just cancel.

Wish I had gotten in on that Pigs and Battleships set too.

Might want to check out his non-Criterion stock as well. He's selling the new Casablanca release for... $2.44?! The Ben-Hur Blu-ray (the pic showing the big Ltd Edition box set) for $6.33?!

Suspicion level rising...

Just bought

Che
The Darjeeling Limited
Godzilla
If...
The Complete Jean Vigo

all together for 42,58 shipped from him...

I'm really curious what's going to arrive. Interestingly enough he changed the prices right after i bought them. The Complete Jean Vigo is now $26.86, The Darjeeling Limited $26.89 and Godzilla is now $27.11.
The others are still the same.

Really strange...

This is interesting and I will wait to see if it plays better.

I feel sorry for Cimino's outcome, but he was a straight up megalomaniac during the making of this movie. He is essentially responsible for the nervous breakdown my film school sound professor, Richard Portman, experienced which lead him to mostly move away from Hollywood work as a re-recording mixer.

Yeah, call me crazy but this is the one CC release I'm counting the days for. (having never seen it)
1) it's an epic western
2) it's controversial
3) it has been "rescued" after the studio "butchered" it.
4) From Eberts review:
"But this movie is a study in wretched excess. It is so smoky, so dusty, so foggy, so unfocused and so brownish yellow that you want to try Windex on the screen. A director is in deep trouble when w do not even enjoy the primary act of looking at his picture."

If anyone is interested there's a 3 hour 38 minute version streaming on netflix instant. I know a lot of people on here prefer to wait and watch their films on blu for highest AQ/PQ, but I'll check it out there first. I'm not sure if that's THE director's cut, but I'd assume so.

Here we go. Originally the film was released at 219 minutes. "Cimino rushed through post-production and editing in order to meet his contractual requirements to United Artists".
Quote:
After the aborted one-week run in New York, Cimino and United Artists pulled Heaven's Gate; Cimino wrote an open letter to the studio that was printed in several trade papers blaming unrealistic deadline pressures for the film's failure. United Artists reportedly also hired its own editor to try to edit Cimino's footage into a releasable film. Ultimately, Cimino's 149-minute version premiered in April 1981 and was the only cut of the film screened in wide release
In the 80's a version of the 219min cut 'directors cut' was available and has been ever since.

Quote:
Notwithstanding the wide availability of the 219-minute premiere version of Heaven's Gate and its frequent labeling as "uncut" or the "director's cut," "Cimino [has] insisted that the so-called original version did not fully correspond to his intentions, [and] that he was under pressure to bring it out for the predetermined date and did not consider [the film] ready," making even the 219-minute version essentially an unfinished film.

A restored version of the film will be shown at the Venice Film Festival in 2012 as part of the Venice Classics series and by The Criterion Collection on Blu-ray on November 20, 2012.
So I assume this will be the release we get and it could be dramatically different then anything we have seen. Depending on how much of it was altered. Interesting.

Yes RojD. You can't help but feel
[Show spoiler]deeply conflicted about what you're watching. You're almost rooting for the sinking so all the dreary political posturing will stop
.

Still, almost every telling of this tale has had its moments, even this one.
