My predictions:
If it's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, the anti-Andersons will be unhappy.
If it's not Le Samouraï, people will be unhappy.
If it's Le Samouraï, people will worry that it will use the same transfer as the European Pathe and will be unhappy.
If it's a Mikhail Kalatozov film, it won't be Le Samouraï or Brazil and people will be unhappy.

- Le Samourai
- Brazil
- Andrei Rublev

Le Samourai seems to me like the most probable choice as it touches middle-ground. Brazil isn't something I am dying for so it would be disappointing. Andrei Rublev would be ideal but knowing Criterion and their new "strategy" I see this as the least possible. Of course, if they want to really give us something great they could release The Cranes are Flying and/or Taste of Cherry. I take those two over all the others listed above.

Also, by the way they worded the hint we could assume there is only going to be a single upgrade. I think the month will have an upgrade, a new title and an Eclipse set. Don't know what to expect from Monday, I am not overly positive about the possibilities.
I'm hoping for Wild Strawberries and/or Eraserhead. I doubt I'm right about either of them.

Most anticipated, lot of people, very happy - that does seem to have Le Samourai written all over it.

Bicycle Thieves and Spartacus would have also pretty broad 'upgrade appeal'.

Other possibilities - Rififi (I swear, I'm going to give up and import this any day now), Passion of Joan of Arc, Picnic at Hanging Rock, BRD Trilogy (this wouldn't make as many people happy as say Le Samourai but man would those people be happy) and maybe Tokyo Story.

Yeah, it sounds like Le Samourai. Criterion posted this on their FB Wall so I guess the "people happy" would be those who request one of those titles a lot. Brazil is a possibility too (Not too excited about that one, though). There are many upgrades that sound appealing but it seems clear to me that they are speaking to the FB crowd here. Le Samourai is my bet.

If we get a Le Samourai announcement, I'll run up and down the street naked while screaming like an idiot.

The only way for everybody to be happy is for everybody to shut up and they release something that I like. Only way.

I would think the Anderson haters would want Life Aquatic to be announced. Think about it, it's the only one left. It'll come out and you won't have to worry your pretty little heads about ol Wessy and his neckerchief "stealing a spot" or "tying up funds" or whatever other nonsense gets thrown around regarding upgrades, particularly his. I suppose the hate will shift to Kurosawa who's got around 20 upgrades to go.

You forgot the most important reason people with a realistic opinion of the maestro's achievements have prayed for Criterion to finish this folly; no more petulant snivel snits from Wes Anderson luvers.

Seriously, though, we know that once Aquatic gets released they will be pining for Mr. Fox to 'get the Criterion treatment' (it's already happened) and then there's the latest Anderson 'masterpiece', Moonrise Kingdom which is an absolute must for the collection. And so it goes.

It does sound a lot like Le Samouraï, but to be honest, I'd much more prefer to see some of the director's earlier work on Blu-ray.

No thanks! Anderson's worst in my opinion. I have the DVD and although I'm curious to see how it looks in HD, I can live without.

Not a big Criterion collector here:

Okay, so do I bite the bullet and get "Eating Raoul" from Amazon, or wait for a sale?

Is there something coming up soon?

I'll be needing "Heaven's Gate" in November....

I used to feel that way but after a few more viewings the movie just clicked for me.

To me, Bottle Rocket is by far his worst from a replay value. It just doesn't hold up for me after watching it so many times.
