The situation with Conan the Barbarian is terrible.
The US edition is censored for sex, the UK one is censored for horse-tripping, and there are a number of other problems with each edition, as well as other European editions.
Considering John Milius is alive and well, it's a shame they can't put together a director-approved edition that seamlessly branches the theatrical cut and the so-called director's cut.

And HUGE portions of the score are missing throughout!

Put me down for When We Were Kings.

I don't know that it's a great fit but it's a very good, very interesting documentary and I wish somebody would release it.

On a side note: California based soundtrack label Intrada will (should be soon) release a 3-CD-set of the original score containing everything.

Good to hear in regards to Fantastic Voyage for 2013
For one, they were big hits, with big stars. That alone puts them in the social consciousness.

The Right Stuff is also slated for Q4 2013 from Warner.

Popular > part of the social consciousness > culturally significant...really?

Armageddon was certainly popular (and ftr a pretty fun ride) but culturally significant? That seems like a bit of a reach. More than a bit, actually.

And not only does it seem like a reach, it seems like a reach that serves no real purpose anyway.

IMO 'so what' is a perfectly acceptable, useful response to the Armageddon Card.

I think it would be a great fit. Eveb though the narrative of how the fight itself went down is not entirely accurate (what documentary is 100% accurate?) the characters themselves: Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Don King, James Brown, Mobuto Sese Seko are all so larger than life.

I always loved that shot of the little boy standing on the side of the road in his boxing stance and his intense stare at the camera.

You are likely correct...damn you! Though another Czech set would make a lot of people quite happy.

Yeah, larger than life is a very good way of putting it.

And unlike most sports docs, they didn't have to make tortured leaps to tie the subject(s) of the film into greater social, cultural, political events of the time. Nor did they beat you over the head with those ties.

The first scene that always flashes into my mind is Ali marvelling over the fact that their flight has a black pilot. No bitter diatribes, no melodramatic hand-wringing - just a very matter-of-fact observation about something that was still pretty ****ed-up in the states.

I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but if anybody is interested in checking it out, Breathless will be shown on TCM this Thursday (Nov. 8th) at 8:00 p.m. EST. I'm looking forward to it as I've never seen it before.
