Yes, but I love the film so much, I had to include it somehow, even though I own the blu-ray edition of this (the HD blows me away)! I would have made it one of my top 3 BD's but Playtime narrowly edged it out cause its such a unique release/film.

I was tempted to buy In The Mood For Love during the last B&N sale, but i held off because I'm trying to budget a bit better with a baby on the way and i knew it was on Netflix instant. I watched it earlier this week and now wish I had just bought it. Such a wonderful, beautiful film.

My top 3

1. The Thin Red Line
2. The Third Man
3. Days of Heaven

Closely followed by Wages of Fear and Night of the Hunter.

On the same (vague) train of thought, has there been any hints of Elevator to the Gallows being upgraded? Seems like a no-brainer for a great BD.

+1 (well, +100)

Since we're still listing top 3 fave Criterion releases, I'll add mine:
Paris, Texas
Naked
L'Eclisse

Last Days of Disco is a bit divisive too so just be warned.
Well, for $3.71, I'm sure I'll love it. Really, though- Kubrick used the first song from Brazil in the trailer for Eyes Wide Shut. I honestly can't wait to see it. Plus I like dystopian films.

As for Gomorrah, I saw a trailer for it and it looks really good. It also looks like something I'm going to like. When it comes to gangster movies, I'd rather see one with substance rather than bullets and cocaine.

And The Last Days of Disco looks like a hit or miss, but I love the two female leads. I'll buy it during the 40% off sale.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I saw Days of Heaven and I liked it, but I expected more. I'll have to watch it again before I see The Thin Red Line. Hopefully I will love it this time around. The cinematography was beautiful though.

I've found Whit Stillman to be a lot like Wes Anderson. Most people love his movies or detest them. I personally think they're fantastic. Lots of witty, snappy dialogue. I didn't care as much for Damsels In Distress, but his first three films are among my favorites by anyone.

Speaking as somebody fairly new to buying Criterion releases, I find it interesting how many more films I want/need now than when I bought my first Criterion film. I don't have anywhere near the number of Criterions as a lot of people in here, but still have far more unwatched films in my collection than watched. Yet I crave more. It's like an insatiable appetite. The more you learn about what's out there, the more you "have to" see them.

Yeah... I've been buying Criterions since the early days of laserdisc (and the ugly cover art), and I find that I go from classic American films, to Swedish, to Italian, to Russian, and then Kurosawa, which them leads to Mizoguchi, and other directors, etc etc etc. so many films, and not enough cash or time.

...and your collection has a bit of a resemblance to mine (although no concerts in mine).

Congratulations...unless by "new baby" you're simply referring to a new HD projector. Who am I kidding, congratulations either way.

Elevator to the Gallows is probably one of my most wanted upgrades. I love the movie, and can you imagine the Miles Davis soundtrack in lossless audio?

I thought I was going to control myself during the holiday season, but I should have known I have no control.... Besides all of the other specials that I bought in the last few weeks, I bought these Criterions:

Videodrome
Belle de Jour
Seven Samurai
The 39 Steps
The Lady Vanishes (blind buy, not watched yet)
Antichrist (blind buy, not watched yet)
The Curious Life of Benjamin Button (not watched yet)
Something Wild (not watched yet)

I have mixed feelings about Videodrome, a blind buy. While I found it fascinating, it's not 'polished' to me. IMO it comes across more as a 'rough draft' that needed more work than as a finalized form, and that keeps it from achieving greatness.

I already had these Criterions in my collection: Black Narcissus, Orpheus, Rushmore, The Thin Red Line, Beauty and the Beast, In the Realm of the Senses, The Three Colors Trilogy, Revanche, The Lady Eve (DVD)

Anyone here seen any of the films in the Fernando di Leo Crime Collection? I blind bought it cause after reading up on the films and watching some trailers the guy seems like an Italian Seijun Suzuki (whom I love). Am I right in this assessment? Speaking of which, when will we get more Suzuki? I would love an upgrade of Youth of the Beast.

Just saw The Royal Tenenbaums for the first time and it is now my favorite Wes Anderson film. A great funny and sad story and a fantastic cast of characters. Haven’t seen all of Anderson’s films (Bottle Rocket, The Life Aquatic and The Darjeeling Limited) but so far I’ve liked everything he has directed.

I just hope Fantastic Mr. Fox and Moonrise Kingdom will become Criterion releases in the near future. That’s the only reason I haven’t bought those on BD.
