Three Outlaw Samurai has been tempting for the last two weeks at $14.99...I broke down today and ordered it. I figured after all I have been spending this past month what's another $15.

To bring the subject back to Criterion, are there any Italian crime films released by Criterion.
Yeah I dug Branded to Kill...thought it was a cool film, very different but very stylish. I will definitely be checking out more Suzuki. Any recommendations for the next one of his to check out?

Default Something Wild $14.99

I just watched Something Wild on my DVR today and the price just went to $14.99 on Amazon so I'll have to get. I remember liking the movie when I was younger but I really did find it a fun ride. I forgot how cute Melanie Griffith was. Also, all this talk of Gomorrah has made me deside that it will be my next blind buy. The trailer has got me hyped for it.

Tokyo Drifter is the obvious choice, but there's also one in the Nikkatsu Noir set, Take Aim at the Police Van, which was pretty cool.
The Nikkatsu set is also full goodness
Criterion also have a number of other Suzuki DVDs and the only reason I haven't indulged is because I'm hoping for eventual upgrades. I'd really love to see Youth of the Beast. I should probably just get the damn DVD and enjoy it

For those who don't want to wait until the assumed next B & N sale in May or June, you can pre-order The Man Who Knew Too Much and either Two-Lane Blacktop or The Tin Drum from DD for $43.06 shipped (or match one with Pina for $49.71) using the code JOLLY for $10 off of $50.

Yep Tokyo Drifter or Youth of the Beast were the two I was thinking of checking out next. Cool to hear that Take Aim at the Police Van was good, seen the Nikkatsu set a few times, never really looked into it too much though...might have to do that soon too.
Yeah and I know right as soon as/if you pick up Youth of the Beast they will announce the upgrade right That's a tough one. I forget sometimes just how nice some of Criterions DVD's are though. Some have such nice prints, I was watching I Vitelloni last night and it still looks great...can't wait to see how beautiful it will look on blu-ray.

For anyone interested, a boxset of Shohei Imamura's A Man Vanishes (along with 5 documentaries by Imamura) will be released next Tuesday on dvd by Icarus Films.:

http://www.amazon.com/A-Man-Vanishes...=IN4I1DDNRDSTW

Pretty good deal if you ask me. 6 films, some very rare and hard to find from Imamura for under $50, a better deal than most Eclipse sets.

There's also the sequel to Branded to Kill, Pistol Opera, which was made MUCH later. It's extremely weird and definitely not for all tastes but I really enjoy that one too. It was released on DVD in America, but not by Criterion.

I might just do that, thanks. Content with my MOC copy of Two-Lane Blacktop so I'll definitely pick up the other two.

My favorite is Youth of the Beast. Its easier to get into than Branded to Kill. Its more of a straight up yakuza film. Story wise it reminded me of a cross between Yojimbo and The Bad Sleep Well, obviously without Kurosawa's production. Other's I enjoyed: Tokyo Drifter, Story of. a Prostitute, Gate of Fresh. I haven't seen fighting Elegy yea. Take aim at the police van was good. I would go with Tokyo Drifter or Youth of the Beast next. Man, I gotta watch these again.

Thanks a lot man! I had no idea but I will surely check it out

I just got my first ever Criterions in the mail today! Chungking Express, Fear & Loathing and Cronos escaped customs and arrived safely.

Thanks ShellOil ... but the file doesn't open for me. Maybe because I use a Mac? Any suggestions?
