Does anybody on here own both versions of Island of Lost Souls Criterion's and MOC's...and if so is the MOC's merit a double dip in regards to the transfer? I'd been on the fence over importing the MOC steelbook of Island. Thought's/opinion's? Thanks in advance!

He's probably just defining eventually as 'before we're all dead'. Excluding Resident Evil and Underworld repackagings they directly released something like six catalog titles this year
[Show spoiler](Les Mis, Lawrence, A League of Their Own, Annie, Holy Grail, Stripes)
and 2011 wasn't a lot better.

I'm sure they have their reasons and who knows, things can always loosen up over there but I'm with Shell...I'm not holding my breath.

It's a shame their deal with Image seems to have fallen by the wayside because it seems like right now Criterion, Mill Creek and Twilight Time are the only games in town. Image would have been the perfect landing spot for something like Gilda or All the King's Men.

Pro-B tends to review both CC and MoC discs and in the review for the MoC disc...

"I did a number of comparisons between this release and Criterion's Blu-ray release and think that one would have a very difficult time finding any major discrepancies between the two. Projecting the two releases, I certainly could not see any."

I'm hoping to see more blu ray upgrades. Criterion has lots of great DVDs but I won't buy in case they upgrade it to blu ray.

Speaking of, is there a list somewhere of all the Criterion DVDs that have been released on blu ray in North America by another company? I would guess that if Criterion didn't release the blu ray, they lost the rights and won't in the future.

Some of Shohei Imamura's films have been released, or are going to be, on BD through Masters of Cinema; Vengeance Is Mine, The Insect Woman, Profound Desires of the Gods, Pigs and Battleships, and Ballad of Narayama. What's the chances of Criterion doing BDs for any of those?

Animeigo's US DVD of Imamura's Ballad of Narayama is going out of print on the 9th next month which means their rights are expiring. I'd love to see a Criterion BD of that.

Criterion's DVD box set of Pigs, Insect Woman and Intentions of Murder was released after they had started releasing Blu-rays, so they already passed them over it seems. They could go back to them like they did with Last Days of Disco, but I don't think it's likely, at least not for a long while.

Are the Criterion Eclipse collections always released exclusively on DVD?

I bought the DVD set of When Horror Came To Shochiku a couple of weeks before I bought my Blu-ray player, but I would have waited had it been released on Blu-ray as well. That's an awesome collection of sci-fi/horror flicks. They look amazing with the upconvert through my Blu-ray player, thankfully.

A new 4K scan was struck from the original camera negative to create the new transfer and the presentation is about as faithful as it could be on Blu-ray.

One could only hope that all catalog releases were as "mostly faithful" as Criterion's Rosemary's Baby.

I should probably ask you to explain in detail what are these serious problems that make Criterion's release only "mostly faithful", but I doubt you could come up with anything substantial, or anything at all, to dismiss Lee Kline and Maria Palazzola's supervised transfer.

For the nth time, "I" - that's "me", not "you" - thought Criterion did much better work last year on several fronts and expressed that "OPINION" without the slightest trace of personal malice or hostility. Ironically, that "OPINION" also jibes with the actual grades in yours and your cohorts own reviews! Some great Criterion projects made it to market last year and that is what I was celebrating.

I wonder what is happening with the Eclipse series. It has been a good long while since one was announced.

Are long gaps in announcements typical? I admittedly am not to familiar with the eclipse line.

It's been too long indeed. I hope there is one announced next month. I don't really mind having films end up on these sets instead of blu-ray, if it means getting more output from them.

Yup, no worries... they're a great source for discovering films we aren't too familiar with. If you're interested in getting more, I can't recommend the Oshima set enough.

I did not address your opinion on whether Criterion did better last year.

I specifically addressed your statement that Criterion's release of Rosemary's Baby was "mostly faithful". This isn't true and it cannot be an opinion. The presentation is as faithful as it could have been for a Blu-ray release.

It is good to see that you went back and deleted the incorrect part of your statement.

I just glanced at that in your collection and it looks like a solid set of movies that pushed some boundaries back in the day.

I agree that these are a great way to push movies through that might have been otherwise neglected over time.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I last edited that post for spelling/grammar only...what...like yesterday afteroon?

Maybe you should try reading my lines, instead of between them??? Of my many human flaws, I'm rarely guilty of not saying exactly what I mean.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...ostcount=58828

The post above is the one I addressed, where you go on to speculate that Criterion's release of Rosemary's Baby has some mysterious issues that make it only "mostly faithful to the source". Then, later on, you went and edited your latest post. That speculation can not be an opinion.

Either way, seeing that you don't remember what you claim and knowing that you cannot possibly explain why Rosemary's Baby might be only "mostly faithful", it is time to move on.
