Hope you enjoy it. Oh and try to read up on the films before you watch them.

There's degrees of your "blindness", as it were. When I blind-buy, it's usually something I'm quite well informed about and I'm often very familiar with the director in the first place. And, as someone pointed out already, we go to the cinema to "blind-watch" a film and often without any background on the film or filmmaker. Speaking of blind-buys, I watched my copy of Godard's Weekend yesterday and must say it was not one of my favourite Godard's. I loved the absurdity of it and its descent into mayhem and madness, but I found a number of the overtly political statements to really drag and go on and on. In particular, there's a scene where the two garbage collectors make very long political statements. No regrets buying it though ![]() |

At home, I've got the perfect seating position in the middle of the room, in the sweet spot between my 7 speakers. There's no one in front of me periodically checking the blinding beacon of light that is their phone. I don't have a fool sitting near me who feels the constant need to explain the plot to their partner. And the only person that rustles plastic food wrappers is Mrs Drbikeshorts. And that usually results in me pausing the blu-ray and delivering a scowl ![]() |

I actually love it when they rush out. I'm usually thinking, "Good, p#ss off!" Then I can sit there and enjoy the music over the closing credits, look for tidbits of information in the casting, crew, and particularly the "special thanks". Even when I watch a blu-ray or DVD at home, I almost always let the credits play through to the end. |

True. I saw The Hobbit a few days back. During a few pivotal scenes in a large Orc cave, I kept thinking about how good those scenes would look here at home on my HDTV.

Very excited to see Ivan's Childhood moving to blu-ray and getting such stellar treatment. This is my most anticipated Criterion release in a long time.
Please Criterion...release more Soviet/Russian cinema on blu-ray. Eagerly awaiting upgrades or new releases of: The Cranes are Flying Ballad of a Soldier The Forty-First Andrei Rublev Bondarchuk's War and Peace (1965) The Dawns Here are Quiet Ivan the Terrible Star July Rain Little Vera Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears I am Twenty ....among many others, including more great films from the silent era like Storm Over Asia. I keep waiting for Kino to upgrade Come and See, but they have been painfully slow with it. I am not sure who holds the rights to Tarkovsky's Stalker and The Mirror (Kino?), but I want those too. |

Jumping topics... The review of Ivan's Childhood put a smile on my face this morning. You'd better believe I'm going to buy that film right away. I hope that Best Buy sells it, so that I can use the Reward points from my HDTV, Blu-ray player, and James Bond Blu-ray purchases, but I'll get it from somewhere else if needed.
