Beauties in the CC: There are many, but for me it pretty much begins and ends with Louise Brooks.

Ever since I can remember, I've always appreciated geography and the various countries and walks of life throughout the world. I enjoy the architecture, historical buildings, and seeing how people act in other places than just here. I don't think anything would make me happier than if I could travel around Europe for a couple of months one year. It's something that I've wanted to do for a while. I'd also like to travel across the entire United States. Hopefully when I graduate from college I can go on a trip during the summer to such countries as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Sweden, Russia, and many more.

Why am I bringing this up? I just finished The Double Life Of Veronique. Not only is it my favorite Criterion film that I've seen thus far, but it may be one of my favorite movies of all time. It is such a beautifully haunting story of chance encounters and the connections that we make. It's a very powerful film that tackles a subject that is not often covered - having a person identical to us in the world. From the first frame to the very end, we see this sensitive connection that two entirely different, but similar girls have. They make these connections that transform their existence entirely and leads them to question themselves.

It's films like these that I truly do appreciate. The colors were vibrant and the acting was superb. Irene Jacob is a very beautiful woman and I cannot be any happier that she won an award for this outstanding person. The film really makes you think and that's something I enjoy doing. I like to sit back and research films that really struck me and learn more about the subtle things that often go unnoticed.

After watching this film, I am really looking forward to watching The Three Colors Trilogy. If they are as good or better than this film, then I will be very impressed.

To make a long story short everybody must buy this film regardless of the price. It is absolutely FANTASTIC and beautifully written and directed. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I'm graduating this year, and as fantastic as traveling sounds, I've been thinking of ditching my degree and studying something else.

Personally Double Life of Veronique is my favorite Kieslowski. Regardless as to how many times you see it, it grows on you more every day. What did you make of the puppet maker/ intelligent design overtones of the film?

(you're in for a treat with Three Colors)

Does anyone know how to add something to an existing order at Import CDs? I've already placed an order for Keaton's "College" and I might add "Thief".

In my experience, changing/cancelling orders with Import is not likely to lead to good things. They're kind of like DeepDiscount thataway. Others may have more useful advise.

Yikes! DeepDiscount wouldn't accept my payment method so I went back and placed my order again. it turns out that 2 orders of the Keaton Box Set were made, I tried to contact them...no answer. Now I've gotta wait for both orders so that hopefully I can return one.

Paris, Texas is 30% off on B&N, and there's a 15% off Valentine's Day code going around, so it seems like and ideal time to pick that up.

Thanks TJS! I just emailed them...I also have a phone number for their customer service, which I can always try as a last resort. Trying to save a few bucks, if I decide to bite on "Thief".

No, sorry I didn't make that very clear, there is a Criterion channel on Hulu Plus and the film is on that channel, so they have rights to the film in some way shape or form, thus there is reason to have hope! (If your response was sarcastic then disregard).

Nice Criterion layout btw. My Blu collection is a train wreck as I ran out of room, thinking of converting a shelf or two of one of my bookshelfs to place all my Criterions on, that way I can move the rest of my movie collection from there stacks in the closet back to the shelves I bought for them.

I feel your pain bro. Unless something's changed you'll probably have to pay shipping on the return and they'll hit you a restock-fee. You might consider reselling on ebay.

What a nice personal reflection on a remarkable film! It's my favorite in the collection, too. You'll love the Trilogy, especially Red.

What are you majoring in? I'm a Criminology and Criminal Justice major and I'm minoring in Psychology. I hope to be a criminal profiler working for the FBI someday. If the film classes at my college weren't aimed at learning how to direct, then I would take some for electives.

Regarding the film, that was probably the most beautiful part in the movie.

[Show spoiler]The children's story at the end of the film really was something special. It really helped explain to the viewer and to Veronique how she had a special connection with Weronika. They were both born on the same day, but in different cities, yet they had a mysterious special connection with one another. The fact that Alexandre had two marionettes was interesting, as well. When one "falls" and gets "damaged" like Weronika did, then he can use the other one, or Veronique. It was truly a great symbol for these two women.

Throughout the film, both girls felt that they were not alone in the world. When Veronique sees the performance at the school for the first time, I feel like it showed how Weronika collapsed through the use of the marionettes. Weronika had a heart condition and through the act of "transforming into a butterfly", she was free of her disease and she was also feel of this feeling of not being alone that has been with her for a while.

Not sure if that is the right analysis, but that's how it appeared to me

I bought Paris, Texas yesterday with the 30% off + 10% membership at Barnes & Noble, but was wondering afterward why the clerk rang it up for only $17 and change. Turns out that she added one of the code sales as well.

At any rate, it's an amazing deal for an amazing movie!

Great reflection on the movie.

I think what makes this a great film are:
1) the story is subtle (it leaves a lot to the viewer's interpretation) enshroud in mystery , 2)cinematography is fantastic (Kieslowski/Idziak uses a lot of color filters) and 3)Irene Jacob is just gorgeous and talented actress. The score also plays an important role.

From The Three Color Trilogy, Red is the film that resembles The Double Life Of Veronique the most (my favorite from the trilogy). I would highly recommend The Decalogue especially if you are studying criminology. It is a series of 10 episodes/short films loosely based on the ten commandments, sublime meditation on each commandment.

European countries that I enjoyed visiting was Italy (Rome more than Venice) and France (Paris). Rome and Paris are museums within themselves.
