Days Of Heaven is a fantastic film. It's one of my favorite Criterion releases. The score is very memorable and the scenery is beautiful. I would recommend this one out of all of the other films you listed.

Thank you, I think i'm going to pick up Days of Heaven. As much as I want 8 1/2 and The Seventh Seal, I guess they will have to wait.

Wages of Fear also looks fantastic, I can't wait to see it.

Just finished Belle De Jour.

Thought it was terrific! Also watched Repulsion lately. I officially now have a major crush on Catherine Deneuve

It actually started when I watched the LD of The Hunger and even though she was much older she was still beautiful.

I don't think she ever stopped being beautiful (you know...for her age..)

Actually I see her film Tristana is coming out on Blu soon. The pre-order on Amazon is up, but there's a review saying the studio butchered the ending. Anyone know anything about that??

The Big Picture also comes out with her on March 19.

On a side note, I'm getting ready to watch Charade. Hopefully my power doesn't go out so that I can finish it.

The guy that wrote it said in his comments he (obviously) hasn't seen the release, but that he saw a presentation of it from the same distributor...so there's no way of telling just yet, I guess...

That just reminded me to order it...then I saw that I already apparently ordered it last month.... yes...I forget about most things I pre-order and then receive them accidentally when I often plan on canceling them..

We need more Bunuel on blu ray (criterion preferably). He is definitely not for the faint of heart

Thanks Rkish. Time to look them up. Are they generally comparable to Amazon in terms of dependability, delivery times, customer support, care in packaging etc.?
They used to ship considerably before the release date...but now just ship, so that you get it around the release date. They are pretty dependable and typically package their discs pretty well. They use a two carrier shipping scenario, where the package leaves with DHL and ends up with the US Mail, as close to your destination as possible. Contrary to what I've seen others post, you can track with both DHL and USPS pretty easily. They don't charge your credit card until they ship and email you after ordering and after they've shipped. Emailing Customer Service typically gets a response within 24 hours (I had a question for them recently about adding an item after making an order...can't do it...ya gotta cancel the initial order and place another with all of the additional items plus the original item).

You can call them as well.

Hope this helps...

I've finally picked up "A Night To Remember." Fantastic PQ. The audio track is quite impressive as well. Very, very pleased so far. Bought it on a recommendation from a good friend who said I wouldn't be disappointed.

This is such an amazing Criterion! I sold my old DVD edition to make room for the Blu-ray upgrade, and I will be pulling the trigger soon.

A Night To Remember has one of the most informative Criterion commentaries that I have ever heard. The commentary track is almost as fun as the movie itself.

This movie just utterly destroys the James Cameron film. (...and I'm usually a defender of the James Cameron film, so that's saying a lot.)

Late in replying...but this has been my experience as well. Some people are really knowledgable on-set but aren't at all very knowledgable or diverse when it comes to watching films/knowing about actual films.

I actually disagree. Just because a DVD/BluRay cover has the coveted C on the front does not mean it will be enjoyable or coveted by everyone.

Pasolini's films (especially his later films) appeal to so people not necessarily to all. I am not a fan personally and would suggest you spend you cash elsewhere within the collection. Jut my 2 cents.

I'm confused a little however... I'm reading a mono audio track all over every review and in the accompanying booklet. Yet my receiver is in stereo. The commentary track is mono, but not the master. Odd.

Interesting. I simply enjoy the movies through the good speakers of my HDTV, and I do not (yet) have a surround-sound hookup. I did not notice anything on the DVD, but the Blu-ray may be a different story.

I don't agree---but I sure can agree about that ending.

Wow. I just counted, and I own 26 Criterion Blu-rays. I did not think that I had nearly that many, but I guess that they stack up quickly when you're having fun.

I bought Army of Shadows, Le Cercle Rouge, and Purple Noon on the same day that I bought my Blu-ray player. I have gradually accrued the rest by way of Barnes & Noble sales and such.

My two favorites of the litter, in terms of both the movie itself and the technical presentation, are Army of Shadows and Paris, Texas. They're all spot-on amazing, though.
