I'll go even further and scratch the valid reasons requirement.

Sometimes you just don't connect with something.

That said, if you're going to go beyond 'eh, wasn't really for me' and take shots at something then yeah, you really ought to do a bit more than 'it sucked'.

My dream release of The Tenant would have Knife in the Water as a supplement.

I don't. It's just enough that he's bumped lower on my film priorities. No doubt I'll eventually check it out, but my general philosophy is to pursue what innately interests me first. He doesn't. It's been similar with Lynch (though I have homework to do this week on that front!). And I have laundry lists of things yet to explore... and I'm slacking on all fronts for considerable reasons.

As an example, I wish I'd waited to explore Godard and Antonioni later, when my interests were more in line with their general approaches. I might have a stronger affinity for them. Because of that, I held off on Bresson and Ozu for a long time because from what I'd read they didn't suit some combination of my taste, tolerance and overall mood. They never left my radar. I've seen a good half dozen of their films now and quite like their respective work.

Fact is, my interests in literature, music and theater go back to college, whereas I've only been "into film" for a decade now (shortly after shuttering my business) and at the beginning it was mostly reading since I had little access to the films themselves. I've now seen and amassed enough that I have a solid sense of what works for me and what kinds of challenges I'm drawn to. In some ways it narrows my vision, in others it directs my vision.

Brevity is the soul of wit... to wit: tl;dr

Yeah, I want Criterion to upgrade the rest of their Fuller films. At least Olive is releasing China Gate in March.

I saw Shock Corridor many years ago, but can't remember much about it.
I haven't seen The Naked Kiss, but I do like B-grade pulp films. I should probably follow up on these two...
Funny, but these films and Fuller don't often get discussed here and today he's the hot topic.
I would definitely like to see a blu-ray of Pickup on South Street...

It was probably originally intended for a stage play, and Malle was only "adapting" it for film, but Shawn and Gregory were certainly in on the idea.
Malle kept his connection with off-Broadway theater, and you have to watch them in their day jobs in "Vanya on 42nd St." to bring the conversation full-circle. We sometimes forget just how influential Wallace Shawn was as an off-Broadway playwright in his pre-Inconceivable days.

Sooo guys. I'm on a budget (kind of ironic since I've spent about $500 in blu-rays the last month)

If you were pick 6 out of this group for me to buy which would you pick?

Anatomy of a Murder
The Killing
The 39 Steps
The Great Dictator
Rosemary's Baby
Paths to Glory
Broadcast News
A Night to Remember
Island of Lost Souls
Diabolique
Godzilla

I'm leaning towards: Anatomy, Killing, Dictator, Godzilla, Paths to Glory and Diabolique

I have all of these and consider them all fantastic and re-watchable.

Well Killing and Anatomy are definites. It's really picking 4 others that I'm having a hard time with. I don't know if I've ever seen the 1954 Godzilla. I MAY have. I always liked Godzilla when I was a kid.

Well I bought Man Who Knew Too Much a few weeks ago so even though I loved it I wanted to mix it up by not getting another Hitchcock movie this go round. That's why I was thinking about others.

I definitely am getting Anatomy because it's a courtroom drama, and I loved 12 Angry Men and To Kill a Mockingbird. Getting The Killing because it's a Kubrick film and I loved 2001, so this will be my first Kubrick Criterion.

Not saying I don't WANT to buy 39 steps, I just want to mix it up a little. The sale ends in a month, so I still have plenty of time to get it I suppose.

Either way it won't matter. I'm in Savannah and the nearest Fry's is in the suburban Atlanta area about 4-5 hours away from where I am. My sister lives in Atlanta and she said she'd pick it up at the store for me and bring it back when she comes to visit next month. So I wouldn't be able to watch any of them for at least a month. I didn't want to pay extra for shipping.

The Killing is a great film-noir - so is Kiss Me Deadly.

You honestly can't go wrong with a Hitchcock film. I watched TMWKTM first and I wasn't very much won over, but I watched T39S and TLV and I loved them both. TLV was my favorite of the three.

Anatomy of a Murder
The Great Dictator
Rosemary's Baby
Paths to Glory
Diabolique
The Killing

It pains me to eliminate great choices, but these would be my picks. I think Diabolique and Rosemary's Baby are the most rewatchable of the bunch.

I'm pretty sure the least talked about Criterion Blu-rays (at least around here) would be:

The War Room
The Times Of Harvey Milk

Oooh, I think these two win. I haven't seen The War Room, but I constantly forget about it because nobody ever mentions it at all. Times is excellent...and very much overlooked when it comes to discussions/recommendations on here.

Dude, you're gonna have to wait three and a half years for War Room to be relevant. Why didn't you see it last year, how un-American of you. (on a serious note, I was at the movies on election night, I came back home, saw that Obama was reelected and continued reading about said movie...)

It's a really interesting documentary, but I can only imagine a Political Science professor watching it more than once every couple years (with a classroom at that).

I had hopes that criterion would release some more Sam Peckinpah on blu ray. Sam Peckinpah with Warren Oates ideally.

If you know your movie titles, you know whats in the bag.
