I may buy it on eBay, but I'm not sure if it's worth shelling out $65+ in case it gets a Blu-ray release.

Also, I'm curious as to what everybody's top Criterion releases are (in general). For me personally, it's the following. The ones in bold are my top favorites.
Actually, if you'd be so kind, please DO shell out the $65 for Dekalog. The rule of jinx means we'd ALL get a Blu upgrade.

Also, the extended episodes are worth picking up from Kino if you can stomach DVD.

Now, some more trivia: Tom Tykwer's Heaven was originally a Kieslowski project (the second script, entitled Hell and also co-written with his usual co-writer, wasn't written yet). If I recall correctly he was asked to direct it based on Run Lola Run and how it played with narrative structure similarly to Kieslowski's own excellent Blind Chance.

Oh interesting. Would you recommend picking up Heaven Blu-ray for $5.99?

Speaking of Ru Lola Run, it's on my Wish List with La Femme Nikita.

Are you looking at the double feature. I picked it up for 15 and it was worth every penny.

I havent seen Heaven, but Tykkwer's Perfume is an excellent film too.

Looking at those I own and not limiting it to Blu-rays, but not including the dozen or more that I haven't yet watched, I would say (in no particular order):

Three Colors Trilogy
Tokyo Story
Ugetsu
Last Year at Marienbad
L'Avventura
Lola Montes
Black Narcissus
The Music Room
Bigger Than Life
Battle of Algiers
America Lost and Found
Sweet Smell of Success
Amarcord

Carlos
Chungking Express
Kes
World on a Wire
Naked

The only other Dassin film I'm really familiar with is The Naked City. I liked it and would likely buy it should it ever be upgraded but wasn't exactly wowed by it.

As for heist films, love 'em.

My top three are probably the ones you've already meantioned (and in that order but Rififi or The Asphalt Juingle is an awfully close call).

Other favorites...

Bob le Flambeur
The Pope of Greenwich Village (somewhat weak overall but the good bits are really good)
Reservoir Dogs
The Bank Job
The Lavender Hill Mob
Ocean's 11 (1960)
The Town

And these aren't really heist films in the caper sense and deal primarily with post-heist fallout but I love them both...

Charley Varrick
Revanche (this was one of my first CC bd purchases and for better or worse completely sold me on buying blind)
Just a heads up to those with Hulu that have never seen Bob Le Flambeur. It's going to expire within the next 5 days... probably because it's a Studio Canal title. Don't make the same mistake I did with "Poetry" on Netflix. I started watching it last night and was nodding out, so I figured that I'd finish it this morning. No dice...it had expired. When Netflix says "until", I now know it means it will expire at midnight on that date. Hopefully it will show up on Hulu in the future.

I plan to finish watching "Bob" before the weekend is over.

Watching LAST DAYS OF DISCO on DVD last night. I have loved this movie since the cinema in 1998, when I saw it 4x.

The DVD looks amazing, with lush colors. But I had never listened to the commentary (Eigemann, Sevigny, and Stillman). Dull as dishwater. I learned a few interesting tidbits. But it was a real slog. I kept wanting to turn it back to the movie's soundtrack because I was missing the great dialogue and performances. The only thing that stopped me was that I know the movie so well I was basically reading their lips.

Perfume is VASTLY underrated and it seems by everyone. I never hear people who enjoy fantasy, surreal or any other genre type films ever mention it and unfortunately, Tykwer's recent films post-Perfume have not been great. The Princess and The Warrior is is post-RLR film that is very good as well.

I just watched Lonesome.

What an absolutely fantastic film. I can't believe how fun of a film that was and how sophisticated it was for its time.

It's so nice to see how life was back then - from the work, the area, the costs, etc.

I can't recommend it highly enough. I had only seen one other silent film before this one, Modern Times, but I actually enjoyed this one a lot better.

Ahh!

I strongly suggest you see king Vidor's The Crowd, it deals with the same elements and in some ways is it's superior.

I found Lonesome to be quite heartbreaking though. The scene before the inevitable reunion had me in tears.

I think the depiction and critique of working life to ahead of it's time. The
superimposition of the clock on to the hustle and mania of a New York office was simple but cuts to the bone.

By the way, you should import the two Murnau Eureka blu rays: Sunrise and City Girl.

Hell add some shorts. Charge $100 - I don't care.

This guy is the best.
I have the box set from KINO with all of these, but it appears to be OOP. I'd be happy if either company released it as well, although soe of the earlier films look pretty rough. Low budget, and not the best conditions in 70s-80s Poland. The Decalogue also looks pretty rough in all its DVD incarnations. I would assume the original negatives are still around, but no idea how much work would have to go into restoring it to make it look really nice.

I was getting so pissed off - especially when they were right next to each other before the storm.

I had a feeling the ending would have turned out that way, but I'm glad it actually did!

Also, I'll have to check them out. Thanks, bro.
