I haven't upgraded Miller's Crossing to Blu yet? How is the Blu-Ray? Big difference over the DVD?

I see what you did there.

I've definitely seen films just because they star a certain actor, and I see nothing wrong in that.

Re: Someone watching a film due to an attractive actor or actress. This sort of thing doesn't really bother me.

Who cares why someone watches a film. They may go into it for the wrong reasons, but once they are there, it might allow them to appreciate something they might not have given a chance otherwise.

I mean, I love their movies, but I'd be lying if I said that part of the appeal in watching a Louise Brooks or a Christina Lindberg film (or truthfully, a Selena Gomez movie, which for me might actually be the closest I get to watching a movie purely for the attractive actress) wasn't the fact that I find them very attractive.

You know, just my 2 cents.

I see that Tess is getting a blu-ray release via BFI with 4k restoration. I hope that Criterion can do a release here in the US. It's one of the few Polanski movies I've yet to see. I'd also really like his version of Macbeth to be made available.

I just finished Shock Corridor.

Eh, it was an alright film. I definitely prefer The Naked Kiss to it, but it was still an interesting watch.

What I did like about the film was the use of internal narration to keep the story going for a good chunk of the film. I think the best part of it was the message - greed and desire can ultimately cost a person their life.

Tone and intent are hard to communicate via text.

Speaking of pervy flicks and leering after beautiful gals: Brian DePalma's Femme Fatale released by Criterion. God damn, only Michael Bay can crank out worse performances from his actresses.

More than alright. It's a scathing satire on the institutionalization of America. A daring film that was way ahead of its time. You know, its Crazy to think To Kill a Mockingbird only came out a couple years prior.

Same here. Probably because I found The Naked Kiss much more unpredictable and subtle.

End of rant.
That's why it's interesting to ask why.
For exemple, I haven't liked a lot The 39 steps because I found it, in fact, overlong and without a plot thick enough to keep my attention. On the other end, I found TMWKTM much better, much more paced, and simply more fun.

Same goes for most of the films iScottie has only liked or even disliked. It is surprising, but sometimes, if the movies don't ring any of your bell...

Koyaanisqatsi and The Tree of Life make me litterally cry, for instance, but I guess not everyone will be as moved by them as I am.

I've been stuck like this on some movies, like The Orphanage for exemple. I watched it a 2nd time once I knew what to watch in it. It was much better once you dontt wait for something that never comes.

I found most of the film beautiful in the way it treats memories and dreams. Guido's opening dream, but also the one with its parents, have been extremely moving to me.

I just received my copy of M from the Criterion website and noticed that the top part of the case is cracked, would I be able to get a replace for free or will it cost me?

There were plenty when I was on there during their mid-February free week, so I guess at least a few weeks

So the order that I placed in the last sale was scheduled to arrive Saturday. It showed out for delivery and never showed up. I looked on there again and it shows it was "forwarded." Now, yesterday, it went through Indianapolis and Cincinnati and so I think it's heading back to Criterion. I don't know why. Everything was right on my order confirmation page and I haven't changed addresses.

I shot Criterion an email and haven't heard back yet. I will probably have to go to the post office and ask them about it. Anyone ever had this happen? (Not just from Criterion but other places.)

Can you get Lifeboat anywhere else on Blu? If not I'll grab the German release!
