Studio Canal maybe?

I'm either evil or stupid: Cleaned-out a local B&N this afternoon. They had one of each of the four Blu-rays going OOP. I had already sold "used, like new" copies of "Army of Shadows" and "Last Year at Marienbad," which I replaced with the Studio Canal edition. Even bought a membership and may get some coupons and/or see another half-off sale! It's risky business -- the 10% membership discount barely covered sales tax. We shall see. I'll sell "Army of Shadows" for $20, if it's the only way to get it out of my house, again!

If you're interested in what may go OOP, look for Studio Canal editions that are region A and B.

Glad I already own all the oop titles. I feel like I should buy another copy of Le Cercle Rouge just for back up. Ya never know! I should really buy the replacement case for Last Year before they stop selling them too. I hate the cardboard case.

Whats everyone's thought on Ministry of Fear? I'm about to make an order with The Man Escaped and am on the fence on that one.

I'm on the fence too. Well, not about buying it.

I've seen the first half hour or so a couple times and never finished it but I love Fritz Lang and Ray Milland and really anything that's even remotely noirish and remotely good is in my book worth seeing in HD.

I didn't really love what I've seen of it so far but it seemed decent enough overall.

Am I helpful or what?

I just ordered Army of Shadows and Last Year At Marienbad. Does Marienbad still come in the cardboard packaging or did they release it in the plastic case later on? I'm just wondering if I need to buy a plastic replacement case from Criterion.

They did re-release it but it's rarer to come by than the original case.

Thanks. I'll wait and see which case I end up with first.

I found it to be a really fun film-noir and I enjoyed it.

Basically the film starts out with a guy recently being released from an insane asylum. He is on his way to London and he goes to a carnival. Some events unfold at the carnival centered around a cake and something important that lies inside of it. The film ends up being about the protagonist trying to figure out who he can really trust while a part of the cat and mouse chase that unfolds throughout the film.

Thanks, I don't even have to watch it anymore.

I thought it was a well made, enjoyable noir film. I've liked just about everything from Lang's filmography besides Secret Beyond the Door. That one was a pretty mediocre effort IMO.

I didn't intend to spoil it. I just gave the basic overview of the first 10 minutes, which sets the stage for the rest of the film.

Oh alright, I just skimmed through your post and read "the film ends..." and then just stopped reading. Can never be too careful around these parts! Well, sounds interesting enough. I'll bite. I'm getting A Man Escaped and MoF for 46.xx from deep discount. Not a bad deal. I really wanna get Sansho Baliff but thats going for 35.xx everywhere.

Army of Shadows and Last Year at Marienbad are going to rapidly become the more difficult titles to find. These are the titles that if you have *any* interest in picking up, you should do so as quickly as you can. You'll see a smadgering here and there upon the next sale, but I fully expect these two to be cleared not too soon thereafter; and travel along the Third Man and Man Who Fell to Earth paths in the aftermarket.
Thanks for the reply. That's a question I wanted to pull back shortly after I posted it. I know that nobody can predict how soon the supply will be exhausted. (duh)

None of these OOP films were on my radar before I heard of the announcement. Now they all are. Time to do some homework to figure out how badly (or if) I want them.

I just ordered Army of Darkness and Le Cercle Rouge after hearing the news on this forum. Luckily I ordered Leon Morin, Priest and Last Year At Marienbad last week. I guess I better get the other Studio Canal titles Breathless, Senso, and Belle De Jour next.

I used to do this all the time without thinking about it. It took a short while before the real title was ubiquitous in my mind to the point that this stopped happening.
