I greatly enjoyed Black Moon. It is both ahead of its time and dated by the pasage of time. I won't go so far to call it brilliant, but it is damn close.
Thanks for the insight. Never thought about it that way before, but definitely eye opening!

I'm pretty sure you caught the Alice parallels, no?

It's just a perfect storm for me.

It blew me away the first time I saw it and it gets better every time I watch it. All of the individual elements are outstanding and it doesn't even have many of those nit-picky, personal 'I know these things aren't flaws but they don't exactly do it for me either' type things.

Virtually everything about it works for me and I can't really say that about too many films.

There's almost always something I don't care for or don't really like

Yes, but not to the degree as was analyzed by oil.

I don't have my reading glasses, what was that last bit. Oh well, I guess I'll never know, so no need to get defensive
That would be a cool thread. There are a few movies that a lot of people consider classics that I pretty strongly dislike, but I'm always willing to discuss why I don't like them with anyone who asks provided they don't attack me, act like they're being attacked, or act like I'm lesser for not liking it. Thankfully that doesn't happen all that often. Truthfully, I was a little worried about saying that I wasn't a fan of Breathless here a few weeks ago, but people responded just fine.

I've only seen it on DVD, so you're giving me incentive to check out my BluRay copy. Maybe we should do Paths of Glory for month 2.

I hope you'll join in the club octagon.

Totally agree with you.
[Show spoiler] The finale is so heart wrenching
that I don't watch it that often, but when I do it impresses me more and more each time.

Check out the lineup. iScottie posted a link.

The great thing is that it won't be an offhand thing. I'm hoping we'll take this seriously and discuss them at length. (I may have to take notes)

Well, no sh*t. What do we have here, a f**king comedian! Private, Joker! I admire your honesty.

What is your major malfunction, numbnuts? Didn't Mommy and Daddy show you enough attention when you were a child?

You little scumbag! I got your name, I got your a**! You will not laugh, you will not cry, you will learn by the numbers, I will teach you!

I will PT you until you f**king die. I'll PT you until your a**hole is sucking buttermilk.

Yes indeed. I've seen all of them, but only on DVD. The only one I've seen my BluRay copy of is Red Desert.

Edit: oh God, this is going to be weird, Red Desert isn't really the recommended starting point for Antonioni (L'Avventura, La Notte, L'Ecclisse are). Shoot, I expect some people to be a bit confused by it.

I just watched it last week and I was BLOWN away (no pun intended!). It's easily one of my favorite Criterions of all time.

Everybody's got a blind spot. I've never seen Grand Illusion, that's my biggest one.

I haven't seen that one either. What do you know?!

Then again, I haven't seen a lot of important and contemporary films! lol

It's a film I adore, but its lingering pace may be too much for some. There's no denying its a work of art, but it may be difficult for some seeing as its nearly plotless.

The films resonance is derived from its thought provoking images and very loose narrative, but I suspect there will be a few people commenting on how "nothing happens." I'll agree to one thing: Hitchcock this is not.

This is going to be great. I'll be able to fill in the more major gaps of Criterions I haven't seen and be able to talk about them in a more organized fashion. I like the general anarchy of this forum, but I'm a generally fastidious person so a nice organized place to discuss a weekly movie sounds great to me.

Stop exciting me. I can't watch it for a couple of weeks so that I'm fresh!

Couldn't agree more. As nice as this big discussion thread is, it's often difficult to keep on topic. With the weekly thread, it'll be more organized and insightful! Look at Naked Lunch, for example. Nobody still explained it to me after my request two weeks ago.
