sorry I didn't use the spoiler tag because I thought that this photo of Miranda is gorgeous...

at one time (2 years... 3 years ago maybe) Criterion made a poll via amazon.com asking us to choose between 3 release (I believe that one of the 3 was Howard's End, one other was Picnic At Hanging Rock; perhaps the third one was a Jim Jarmush movie (I'm not sure about that one).
Well; the blu-ray of Howard's End came out very quickly after the polls result.
I kept thinking about the fact that they had 3 blu-ray titles "ready" to go out; and that we missed - at that time - the chance to see "Picnic At Hanging Rock".

I'm quiet sure that if this blu-ray release is ready since 2 years, they are sure about the licence about this movie so that no StudioCanal "thing" happens with this title.

well, do you think that there are some chance that we could have both in HD the original sepia cut too ?
I tend to prefer the director's cut- I already own the UK Blu-Ray and the transfer is gorgeous to my eyes...
that would be great to have some particular bonus; perhaps not in 1080p24 but a HD 1080i transfer of the original theatrical release would be a nice addition, what do you think ?

She's quite lovely in both roles, of course.

Just goes to show that we can pretty much make Criterion topics out of almost any film.
Well, she IS ten years older in AIRPORT, though still certainly attractive! I loved AIRPORT as a kid when it first came out, and seeing it again over 40 years later I'm not sure it really deserved an Oscar nomination as Best Picture but it definitely holds up better than I expected, and is also a wonderful time capsule of air travel in much more innocent years (not to mention the Minneapolis airport, through which I've flown countless times).

I remember that. Down by Law was part of it, along with Au Revoir les Enfants.

thanks for the refreshing memory...
so Hanging-Rock was the last one from this poll they hadn't release.
should be in that case a "standard bluray upgrade" (I mean, with same bonus like the original DVD release...) - what do you think about this ?
any chance of new special bonus ?

I saw Airport several times during childhood, and was drawn in every time. Last night's viewing, my first in at least a couple of decades, was no exception, although the movie does take its time getting off the ground (har har). I had no idea who Jean Seberg was when I was a kid, so I never associated her with this movie.

Sweet Smell of Success is one of my nine still-unwatched Blu-rays that I'll be viewing over the next few days, so I'll be seeing another Burt Lancaster role. I'm saving that movie for last, though.

In all seriousness, I would love to see a Blu-ray release of Bio-Dome someday. That's always been a guilty pleasure, and I proudly own the DVD.

Your Tess avatar is ace, by the way.

Thanks. Tess is an underrated masterpiece. I have the awesome UK blu with stunning PQ, but will pick up the criterion edition if and when it does get released.

I just watched Encino Man with a friend a few nights ago and we had a blast. I figured it was going to be one of those childhood flicks that's best left as a memory, but it ended up being surprisingly good - for a film that's about 2 teenage losers who discover a frozen caveman in their backyard. I came across that pic randomly during a google search and I got excited for a second.

I picked up Son-In-Law on dvd, so hopefully the Pauly Shore nostalgia trip can last a little longer. Considering Bio Dome as well.

It probably means nothing because they post random pictures of their collection constantly.

Oh how I wish it meant something, though. Few films deserve the treatment more for their sheer visuals alone. Would love, love, love for this to be announced.

Just watched Cronos and really enjoyed it. I didn't think the film would take the turn that it did, but it was very nice.

My favorite thing about it was probably the names, especially Jesus. Pretty ironic, if you ask me.

I saw Band Of Outsiders this morning after my run, and it looks great on Blu-ray. I had forgotten how fast this movie flies by. It's a lightning fast film. I'll have to review this later.

I'd like to know if there will be any coupon available for online use on B&N sale.
I always read people telling they got their Criterions for lower than 19.99 but I never find any coupon I can use online.
I'm from Brazil and love the Criterion Collection. I've got some tiltles but I want to power up my collection.
Thanks in advance for the information.

This film has always intrigued me, but I have not yet made the leap. Your comparisons to Michelangelo Antonioni's films gave my interest level a nice boost. Much appreciated!

Decided to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey today.

It was bothering me that I wasn't intrigued by it on the first watch and I felt like I couldn't really go on with my alphabetical movie watching order.

All I can say is wow. What a fantastic film. It was the perfect day to watch it too. I was home alone and had a lot of down time this afternoon. Plus, it was raining. Such a great movie - easily one of the most impressive films I've seen.

Nice! Watching the film all at once in a quiet place all by yourself makes a big difference. 2001: A Space Odyssey is ideal for such circumstances.

I actually pondered buying 2001: A Space Odyssey today, since I saw the Blu-ray on the $5.99 rack at the local used store. It's been on that rack forever, though, so I decided to wait a while longer. The store gave me almost $40 for my DVD set of The Twilight Zone, since I have the Blu-ray box set coming to me in the mail. I only bought one Blu-ray today, though. I decided to upgrade my old DVD of Sixteen Candles, since revisiting The Breakfast Club the past week put me in the mood.

The other eight still-unwatched Blu-rays in my collection are all black-and-white film-noir-ish movies from the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, so it'll be good to break these up halfway through by watching Sixteen Candles.

I was weighed down with background noise, among other things on my first visit. Glad to see this one went a lot better.

I like how the film leaves a lot up for interpretation, specifically the entire meaning of the film. Right from the start we see how this monolith has an influence on anyone who encounters it. This leads me to believe that the writers wanted to convey a supernatural meaning to our existence, but then again that sounds fishy.
