Suggestions?
If you want beautiful drunken spectacle: Heaven's Gate
If you want something classically good: On the Warerfront or Colonel Blimp

I haven't seen the other three.

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't seen it yet, but I've been regretting not picking up other OOP titles when I had the chance, so I grabbed it.

Hmm I'll be slightly disappointed if it has. I was hoping to pick up Life of Oharu in the sale and avoid the dreaded RoyalMail handling fee.

I'll be surprised if that's true. Not only would it runner longer than usual, it would overlap the current Blu sale at B&N.

Just finished Design for Living, I quite liked it! However, there was one doozy of a scratch that pops up in the near the end of the film that lasts for quite a bit. It was a bit distracting.

On another note, the special features were very informative, especially on how the film differs from the play. Funnily enough, one of my college professors was interviewed for one of the features.

Another solid release from Criterion.

On the Waterfront is one of my top five movies, so I'd say go with that. At the same time, if you're in the mood for something really grandiose, and you've got the time for an epic, I'd say Heaven's Gate.

Hmmm...I'm a big WKW fan, but I figure I'll just wait until it hits theaters in August.

Was Christopher Doyle' presence missed? Because those trailers made it look very washed out.
I didn't miss Doyle (whose work I usually love) as I thought it was gorgeous throughout. I'd like a longer version, especially if it fleshed out Chang Chen 's character more. His truncated story was the only disappointing part of the film for me.

I believe the international version removes 15 mins from the Chinese version and adds 10 mins of additional material. Should be enough of a change to feel like a new experience.

There is a Stand by Me Blu-ray, and it's quite impressive as far as content and presentation. This has been one of my all-time Top 10 films since I saw it in the theater in 1986, so I wouldn't mind seeing a Criterion release. I doubt that such a thing will happen in the near future, though.
I have the original Blu release but I kept hearing about the Criterion release... Thanks for the info everyone that replied

I saw the original 3:10 to Yuma on DVD years ago, and loved it. I still think that the original is better than the remake, although I enjoyed the remake as well. Glenn Ford is excellent, just as he was in The Big Heat and Experiment in Terror.

Heave you heard the commentary track for Stagecoach? I've been meaning to.

No, but will give it a listen if I get a chance. Don't get to sit down and listen to commentary tracks so much since the baby arrived.

I hear you. With less free time, I would stick to just the film too.

On the Waterfront and The Seven-Percent Solution (which I've been wanting to pick up myself)!

To add, Barnes and Noble is including an advertising flyer with all blu-ray/dvd purchases announcing a "two for one" sale beginning on June 1st.

Doesn't the Criterion 50% off sale always follow the 2/1 sale?

Picked up the copies of Le Cercle Rouge and Playtime DVDs yesterday and watched them. Playtime was something else all right, hard to really explain but it was like something I've never seen before. The design and the cinematography was really outstanding, I don't think I've seen such long camera shots been done like this before.

Le Cercle Rouge was a great movie as well, the score and the acting was really great. Very suspenseful and the stylistic choices the director used were really nice. I like how there was actual hints to the title in the movie itself. Also the cinematography was top notch as well, I really enjoyed the beginning of the movies sequence. That kind of stuff seems so unique and to think the movie is over 30 years old makes it even smarter.
