Playtime is back in stock but Le Cercle Rouge sure is OOP. However, it is not as expensive as trying to get The Third Man.

Considering Linklater is in the collection and the third entry opens on Friday, everybody who hasnt done so should check out the Before Sunrise series immediately!

I don't know if it's been mentioned but a bunch of the titles on amazon that were around $30 or higher just went down to $23.99. Titles such as Blow Out, Breathless, and M.

Hopefully these prices stick around.

Excellent. Did you regret not waiting atleast a couple days before seeing Sunset? It benefits tremendously from letting the previous entry sink in.

I'd say they are very slim with his previous film not being released by Criterion.

Good read. I'm hoping that Criterion will release a Blu-ray upgrade of The Spirit of the Beehive someday. Talk about a movie that should be seen in high definition.

Watched "Brazil" last night, which was a blind-buy based on not only the synopsis, but some user comments in this thread, in addition to the fact that it has Criterion's stamp of approval.

What a fantastic film. Eerily enough, the weird mother/son relationship in this movie reminded me of Peter Jackson's "Dead Alive" for some reason - they're very similar in how those characters interact. But I thoroughly enjoyed the entire director's cut, and would recommend it to all here. It has a very 80's feel, but also has a timeless message as well as lasting impact on the viewer.

So I'm trying to decide between picking up Summer Interlude or Summer with Monika. Have not seen either of them. Any suggestions?

Both are worth watching. Summer Interlude is an interesting viewing solely for all of the subjects Bergman would inevitably focus on with a greater detail later in his career (Islands, the theater, "wild strawberries"). Of course, there's more to it than this. The black and white photography is breathtaking, and only furthers my belief that Bergman is the black and white filmmaker. Summer with Monika is the film I prefer. I was really taken aback by this one. The story is compelling in its simplicity and has a greater thematic depth. It stuck with me in ways I wasn't expecting.

So, in short, if you can only pick one, get Monika, but both are indeed worth owning.

If you want something light and effervescent: Interlude

If you want something like Godard's Pierrot Le Fou, replete with unlikeable characters: Monika

So it's that time of the month again, which brings me to that inevitable question: With the 15th landing on a Saturday, does anyone know if the announcements will be tomorrow or Monday?

I think I am in the minority, but I prefer Summer Interlude to Summer with Monika. They are both worth getting if you like Bergman.

I don't think they've ever announced titles before the 15th, so surely it will be on Monday.
