No that's just loyal comic geekery, like when he does Alan Moore comics verbatim.
We're not talking Tim Burton-level probably-gay-all-by-himself...

On the gay subject, shouldn't Withnail and I be an upcoming release coming to Criterion blu-ray? It is quite an interesting film.

I can't watch gay cinema for gay cinema's sake. It's a lifestyle that I'll never understand and never want to understand. But a gay man representing the truth of life...that I can take and enjoy!
"It's a lifestyle that I'll never understand and never want to understand" is obnoxious. It reminds me of that ridiculous comment "I don't care what they get up to in the privacy of their own bedrooms but I don't want to see it" as if gay people are running amok in the streets! It's insulting and nonsensical.

Maybe not in the streets, but maybe he just wants the OLD Bravo Network back.

We can hope. I've always loved this movie.

I also love how the movie is sampled on one of my favorite albums, Ride - Going Blank Again.

I think that since their 50% off Criterion sale started the stores we out of stock fast, and I just don't think titles like The Game were re-stocked yet. I would expect them to carry specific titles from time to time, but with Best Buy you never know.

My BestBuy only has Badlands and possibly Dazed and Confused. Unfortunately they have minimalized their movie section, but I found their prices to be fair and could really get good deals.
Now, on the other hand, Barnes and Noble is carrying every single Criterion title and they just sit there untouched because of their pricing. I was in there during their 40% off sale and these people were complaining while walking around the entertainment section about the high prices.. News Flash People: Complaining to the employee is not going to automatically lower the price of Hyde on Hudson Park, ok? I actually walked up to this irrate lady and told her this mind-blowing fact: Its a freedom of choice, so look elsewhere. (I'm an eavesdropper)

BDMARTIN, I hear you. It happens a lot on these threads also, the usual this stores prices are too high OMG What are they thinking. Well That STORE didn't create the RETAIL PRICE, the studio made that price. Unfort. Barnes & Noble sale by retail price so it makes me mad when people get mad over the pricing, they should be writing to the studios and complaining. While I am aware retail pricing doesn't mean the sale price can't be lower, and we all know amazon sells cheaper etc, we all have the choice to purchase titles from where etc and pricing we see fit.

For instance I could have waited for some Criterion titles such as Things to Come for the Barnes 50% off sale in July but I wanted it now so I did the buy 2 get one free deal and managed to use a 8.00 off 40.00 DVD coupon - I know they shouldn't have taken that coupon but some people will key them some won't. It is a gamble. In the end I paid about 21.50 per CC title Tuesday.

Just saying I hate the Barnes bashing etc when they didn't set the price.

then again I see the same price bashing for $20.00 titles I recall some saying Lawrence of Arabia BLU ray only was too expensive... I'll wait till it is 10.00 and sure you can grab it for $10.00 now but I didn't find it pricey at $20.00 it is on BLU in HD! People want high quality for low quality pricing.

What's a 'lifestyle', anyway?

Weekend is one of the best gay films made, and very contemporary - very glad CC got round to releasing that

A lot of Criterions are $19.99 on Amazon right now.

I just ordered these for a total of $39.98.

This was a rather spur-of-the-moment purchase for me, but the prices with free shipping amount to the same as what I'll pay with tax at the Barnes & Noble sale in July. I've had a real hankering to watch Stagecoach again lately, so I could not resist pulling the trigger. Here's to eating cheap meals until the next payday.

2 excellent choices! Seeing Stagecoach reminded me that I'll be finishing the Quiet Man later today!

Hard to predict. Universal's release of Traffic looked pretty close to Criterion's but their UK release of Videodrome was significantly inferior.

I ordered The Quiet Man from ImportCDs last week when they had the big sale, and that's what spurred my preoccupation with John Ford's films again. (I already own The Searchers on Blu-ray, and I had been wanting to upgrade my old Stagecoach DVD for a while.)

My guess is that given Charade's history in the public domain, Criterion's release will probably remain superior. Can't say for sure, but Criterion probably put more work into Charade than Universal will.

It more than likely will not be up to par as Criterion's release.

Incidentally, I flipped a coin to decide between the Criterion Blu-ray of Charade and the Criterion Blu-ray of Diabolique. I made the right choice, because I've been wanting to replace my old Diabolique DVD for a while now (I had the initial Criterion DVD edition of this movie with the rough transfer.). It will go well as a double-feature with Clouzot's The Wages of Fear.
