Same scenario; Tokyo Story was my first Ozu.

Late Spring was my first Ozu. I think any of his films would be fine for a first. They all complement each other well.

I had The Double Life of Veronique on DVD, but sold it months ago to make room for the eventual Blu-ray purchase.
Sadly, I have not got around to purchasing the Blu-ray yet. I love the movie, but there have been several other Criterions that I've been more greedy to upgrade.
Soon. Maybe even before this sale is over.

I've never felt any inclination to buy Chungking Express. I'm sure that it's a pleasant film, but it just hasn't registered on my personal radar yet.

Anywhere is a good start but personally I would watch the silent films after the talkies. Also some don't feel like an Ozu when one of his regulars aren't in it.

The Eclipse Set Late Ozu is one of the Crown Jewels in my CC. I can't praise it enough. Well, maybe this- Highly recommended.

Just found $20 in my pocket from the other night, which means… only one more purchase, so which one?

These are movies I want avail. on DVD, but have no clue on their blu upgrade, unless anyone's heard of any news:
Bicycle Thieves - seen
Ace In The Hole - seen
(these are listed at Barnes for $39.99)

Blu:
Sansho the Bailiff - blind (Edit: Just realized this is on Hulu, maybe I'll catch it there)
Rashomon - seen

or any other suggestions based on my list: http://http://www.criterion.com/my_c...?sort_by=spine

When DVD was the top format I wished La Notte would be released so it could fill the gap in the Criterion Antonioni trilogy. Now; just the opposite, will be waiting for L'Avventura and L'Eclisse to join this one on Blu.

I've never sold a dvd or blu-ray in my life, but for some reason I have the strongest urge to sell Shoah and get 2 regular criterions in return. It looks awesome up on the shelf, but I don't know what it is...

The fact that I really don't have 9 1/2 hours for a movie, not with work full time, school and girls, tv (dexter, bb, newsroom) Maybe because it's a documentary and none of my other criterions are docs, although I want the war room (speaking of a criterion that's never mentioned on here). I'm just being petty I guess.

Watch it. You'll get a bunch of hate by posting that you would rather watch Lena Dunham's show than watch Shoah....oh, wait, you probably mean dating, not the TV show

Is it a cinephilia no-no setting your sights on a girl who works at a movie theaters?

I lol'd... Girls is a pretty funny show, though.

Which reminds me that I've yet to watch my copy of "Tiny Furniture."

It's nice to see that they aren't completely bare bones but they still have the beautiful price tag. I feel like The Blob should have fallen under this umbrella as well.

But I'm a huge fan of his post 70s work so I don't know how reliable my recommendation can be. I'd give King Lear a 9/10 and the same for Nouvelle vague, Detective, Prénom Carmen, 'Je vous salue, Marie' and Soigne ta droite and a 10/10 for Hélas pour moi and Allemagne 90 neuf zéro. Oh and of course, Histoire(s) du cinema, Éloge de l'amour and Film socialisme are all great as well. For Ever Mozart is the only non-great film of his from 1983 on. It seems that Criterion doesn't have much interest in releasing any of his post-60s work (or has access to them. Several of those titles are Studio Canal).
I've only watched two of his post-New Wave films (Tout va bien and Comment ca va) and I was left cold by both. I've got Keep Your Right Up to watch next, so hopefully that pays off a bit more.

Two $30 titles is definitely a good thing. 3 Women should have been priced that low too, considering the lack of extras.

I've been meaning to see Girls. Most people like it more than TF (which I was mixed on), so that's a good sign.

Let us know if you like both the film and the few shorts included in the set.
