I am on your side too. I saw this film in the theater and was cringing for about 95% of the film. It was way too overambitious for its own good. Add to that, one of the most pretentious films I've ever seen. If this film had never been made, the world would be a better place. I think the directors' execution and actors really destroyed whatever little of the script was actually good.

Disagree big time. I am still in admiration of the work Tykkwer and the Wachowski's put in the film.

It's good we can disagree on one thing. I just have to say Cloud Atlas makes me sick to my stomach. It's pure perversion at its finest. This sort of film should have been made in the hands of a more humble director. It shouldn't have to take 3 directors to make a film just like it shouldn't take 3 writers to write a film. A single-handed vision is the greatest. This film is ponderous and monotonous and Tom Hanks appearing in almost every scene is maddening. Though I don't always agree with film critic Rex Reed, he did sum it up here: "A trash heap of rubber noses and implausible high school accents that give new meaning to the word "pretentious."" Yes, unfortunately, Cloud Atlas offers more answers than questions and is too audacious in general. It strives to be the most "self-important" and most "profound" film of all time! Cloud Atlas redefines the term "pretentious"!

Cloud Atlas is a vile piece of garbage not fit for humanity.

It's a bad drug. Just SAY NO.

And the sad thing is, I was so excited to see that film! I was proclaiming that it would be a life-changing experience after I watched the incredibly moving trailer. But the film just does...NOT...WORK! It's incomprehensible and has too many storylines.

True, but who is to say that Oliver Stone might not one day be featured in the Criterion Collection! If any of his films may be put on there I would say Salvador is the best choice!

Ahhh... The Wachowskis.

I loathed V for Vendetta, and that has soured me on their films. They took a good graphic novel story and turned it into a feel-good movie for political extremists who wish they were terrorists, but don't have the nerve to be actual terrorists.

I still love the first Matrix film, so we'll always have that, at least.
