I'd love a release of Von Sternberg's final film (it was made after Jet Pilot, released before it) Anatahan, which he made in Japan. I haven't seen it yet but it sounds fascinating.

Nice! I may purchase a copy.

Lol. I don't mind watching DVDs, but I don't feel like purchasing one just for it to be announced on Blu-ray a week later. It's happened before.

(I'm joking, but curious to see the reactions.)
Had me going there for a second or two... and i freaked out a little. I'd love to see this on blu-ray.

I should pop in my old cc laser disc of Dersu, it's been a very long time since I've made it's acquaintance.

The Life Aquatic and Le Samourai have been popular announcement predictions here since I've been on Blu-ray.com. When announcements are posted during each subsequent month, we all go through the stages of denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Mixed with varying levels of elation about the actual announced titles, of course.

Do you own that Kino 5 films box set? Now that would be an upgrade!

Hell yes on both! If Shallow Grave is in the collection I don't see why Hard 8 shouldn't be.

Thief is a flat out masterpiece. One of the best debut films, maybe the best, of the '80's.

No love for The Bad Sleep Well? That could definitely use an upgrade.

So could (unrelated) Kwaidan, Lacombe Lucien, Murmur of The Heart, and The Pornographers... Maybe put some special features on them this time!

The Bad Sleep Well is great. Of course, you could say that about pretty much all of Kurosawa's films.

Your mention of Kwaidan made me think about Onibaba. I want to see that one in high definition pretty badly.

I don't think we'll be getting ERASERHEAD and MULHOLLAND DR. in the same slate, probably ERASERHEAD first. Then MULHOLLAND DR. sometime next year. Also we already got Hitchcock and Chaplin this year (Foreign Correspondent and The Kid are more likely for 2014, imo).

Tomorrow I'm hoping for any of these titles...

New spines:
ERASERHEAD
A BRIGHTER SUMMER DAY
Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN
NASHVILLE
BARTON FINK
SCANNERS
THE BROOD
THIEF
THE TENANT

Upgrades/reissues:
THRONE OF BLOOD or IKIRU or THE HIDDEN FORTRESS (Any Kurosawa really)
THE VANISHING
PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK
LE SAMOURAI
ANDREI RUBLEV
INSOMNIA
PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC
ACE IN THE HOLE

I'm awfully tempted on buying that L'Avventura poster Criterion has up for sale. It's just so pretty.

Well, keep in mind that in 1959, school desks could shield one from a nuclear attack.

Well, actually, Kansas City Confidential was originally released by United Artists, so it makes sense that MGM would have that.

The other two have the production company International Pictures in common, so RKO likely only had the original film distribution rights.

yeah, i've been a fan of Criterion for a while, but this is only the second or third time waiting for the announcement. Just excited to see what's announced. The last time I was excited was for The Ice Storm.
