I just ventured over to Criterion's Facebook page to see if the fan discussion was revealing anything.

Nope. Someone did, however, post a link to 2003 photos of Emmanuelle Béart. I took a minute or so to visit that link out of basic courtesy to a fellow Criterion fan.

Specking of Beart, CC really needs to release La Belle Noiseuse, and its counterpart Divertimento. There's apparently an HD restoration done that Pro-B has seen or at least knows about. And it would be nice to see the double feature of Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring, which MGM owns. Although MGM just made a big deal with Twilight Time.

Some of my favorite films still don't have Blu-Ray releases at all and they'd definitely fit in well with Criterion's releases. I would be absolutely thrilled to pay full retail price if they announced:

Roy Andersson's Songs from the Second Floor and You, The Living
Hirokazu Koreeda's Maboroshi no Hikari and Afterlife
Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita and Roma
Yimou Zhang's To Live and The Road Home
Bela Tarr's Werckmeister Harmonies
Lars Von Trier's Dogville

I consider the above to be potential miracles, but there's still plenty of upgrades I'd love to see along the lines of Fellini's other works, Buñuel's The Exterminating Angel, etc. I'm always crossing my fingers.

Considering that Paramount just won the rights to La Dolce Vita, I think a CC release would happen. Unless it belongs to WB now that they have a distribution deal.

Does Warner own The Hunger or did they just distribute it for MGM the last time around?

I would think the latter, no?

WB owns that part of the MGM library.

On an almost certainly unrelated note I'm surprised there wasn't any notice taken here of this little item...

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=11809

Arrow is releasing The Long Goodbye this fall. The foolish, optimistic, naive me would have at one time thought 'whoa, cool, a CC release is surely right around the corner'.

The jaded, cynical me is glad I'm region-free.

In either event though, it's pretty cool news.

I'm actually pretty excited about The Long Goodbye, Big Trouble, and Body Snatchers. Don't know why, but I love the 70's version of Snatchers, maybe it's the music at the end.

Arrow also released "Rififi" in 2011. I was sure Criterion would have upgraded it by now. I guess film noir isn't the direction that they are going in.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) is an almost perfect remake.

It puts its own generational stamp on a story without going out of its way to reinvent the wheel. I was actually a little surprised at how much I liked it.

And it features one of the absolute best cameos in the history of film

Oh, does this have something to do with Ted Turner's previous holdings?

Yeah, that's pretty much Exhibit A in the case for 'okay, not so fast...it doesn't necessarily mean anything'.

And of course, for all my talk of being jaded and cynical I still haven't bought the Arrow Rififi because I'm still convinced on some level that a CC release is right around the corner

Yeah, seems that way.

I will say though the Arrow release of Rififi is fantastic, and a great presentation, too.

Who else would like to see a box set of those 4 Samurai films they released together? Those being Samurai Rebellion, Sword of The Beast, Samurai Spy, and Kill! (Of course I wouldn't mind seeing Sword of Doom being rereleased either.)

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) is NOT owned by WB it is under MGM division that is currently being distributed by FOX. It was a United Artist release. We already have a US BLU and as much as I would love a US better special edition of this film I doubt Criterion would pick it up. but who knows.
