Thanks for putting the poll together.

There were a few good Criterion selections on my list.
Jesus! That was hard, very hard!!!! I'd have a hard time compiling a 1950 Top 20, so a Decade Top 20 was exactly brutal.

Creature from Black Lagoon?

Creature from the Black Lagoon squeaked in at #20 out of sentimental childhood reasons, but I still believe that it's an awesome movie. I would have like to have put Letter Never Sent, Ikiru, 3:10 to Yuma, The Quiet Man, one of the Bergman movies, or, perhaps, Sweet Smell of Success in that spot, but there was simply no way on Earth that I could leave Creature from the Black Lagoon off of my personal Top 20 of the 1950s list.

The funny thing is that I could have easily compiled a list of top 20, top 30, or even top 40 monster movies from the 1950s. It just goes to show how awesome that decade was all across the board.

Here's how it went down...

I listed all of the movies that I love from the 1950s, and came up with about 80 or 90 selections. I had to narrow it down to 20 from there. Good Lord...

My list is heavy on the Hitchcock perfume, but those films are simply marvelous, and, in my opinion, flawless.

I received my coupon through email about a week and half after I mailed my disc. I received the replacement disc a few days after that.

AAAHH!
It's a crime I couldn't fit in Letter Never Sent. The 1950's were indeed a great decade.

(I don't think I've seen more than 20 1950's monster movies...you should create that poll thread)

I'll hold off for now, as not to have multiple "1950s poll" threads about, but there were so so so many to choose from...

[Show spoiler]Creature from the Black Lagoon (and all sequels)
The Thing from Another World
The Blob
Godzilla
The Fly (and the sequels)
20 Million Miles to Earth
The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms
Them!
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Lost Continent
Invaders from Mars
Forbidden Planet
It Came from Outer Space
Fiend without a Face
The War of the Worlds
Tarantula
This Island Earth
The Mole People
Earth vs. the Flying Saucers
The Deadly Mantis
The Monolith Monsters
The Monster that Challenged the World
The Black Scorpion
It! The Terror from Outer Space
The Colossus of New York
The Giant Gila Monster
Journey to the Center of the Earth
The Angry Red Planet

...and so on... That's only a fraction of the list, and the above movies are all quite fun.

It's also worth noting that I have not yet seen Strangers on a Train, and my Blu-ray should be arriving from Amazon in a day or two. It's a glaring blank spot in my knowledge of Hitchcock films, and I'm looking forward to seeing it at long last. It may very well kick something else out of my list.

I expect that one to bump 'Creature' from your list

It also has the greatest tennis match ever committed to film

That is sad news. Such a great story teller, what a terrible loss.

I Have strangers on a train on recording. I would watch it tonight, but I'm watching Wild Strawberries. Also, I haven't seen enough 50's films to conduct a Top 20 though. I might conduct a top 10 tomorrow, but I don't know.

Criterion is fast and friendly, so the replacement disc will make its way to you soon.

I did not like not having a Three Colors: White disc at all for that short period of time, though. Probably a sign that I should be institutionalized for OCD or something of the sort.

I used my $10 gift certificate to buy Seconds, and I could not believe how fast that movie was mailed. It showed up a couple of business days after I ordered it.

BTW, Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry are great...as is 10,000 Maniacs' cover of that song...
I just took a look at PopcornBandit's avatar. I noticed his is indeed a daytime version of mine! I also noticed his is in the 16:9 aspect ratio while I cropped mine to around 1:33 to maximize the avatar space! Additionally, I also raised the brightness (and a bit of contrast) on my avatar so it would stick out more. I still haven't seen Bling Ring yet but I have heard mixed reviews. Lately, Coppola's films have disappointed me (Somewhere was a let down in my opinion).

I bought the digibook not long ago too (I think last year too!). I am very happy that it got 4.5 stars out of 5 for PQ/AQ on here. I can't tell you how Warner Bros. does such great work on their catalog titles. They impress me almost as much as Criterion does. But this film itself maintains its power upon repeated viewings. There are now scenes in the film that affect me more emotionally than when I was younger. The film is so "deep", spiritual and goes beyond athleticism, and this is the key to its power. Amazing and moving film.

You heard correctly, but incorrectly. Only the first pressing had incorrect ratios on two of the five films. But that was swiftly corrected and the proper versions have been available for years.

Your avatar is the best of the two. Well done!

Has anybody ever used the intro shot of Lost in Translation as an avatar? I would be surprised if that has never been an avatar before.

I agree! Lost in Translation is still my all-time favorite soundtrack I think. Why can't there be more soundtracks like this? Does anyone know another soundtrack that is similar to this? I can't think of one.

I finally bought the DVD last year (or 2 years ago) because I wanted to see this film so badly again. I bought the DVD new for maybe $6 or 7, so it was very cheap. It's a great adventure story to say the least.

If I wasn't so swamped with Blindbuys, I would pop in Jackie Brown this week...my favorite Leonard related film!

No, I'm the same way. Same goes for Carlos.

It'll be all good once I receive the credit, though. Going to spend it during the next sale. The question is, what am I going to spend it on. Hm..
