Finally joined this morning and I did get the 1 free month. Pretty cool! No idea where to start though... sooo many choices. Didn't realize how overwhelming it would be.

So why did everyone think Breathless & 400 Blows were going out of print? Doesn't seem like it...?

Good call on the wishlist for today! I've got to go see a play with my wife, so I'm going to try to TiVo some games, alogn with Dex and Breaking Bad. Fingers crossed!

Great movie, and totally agree. I need to pick this up on blu. It's been way too long since I've watched this.

CriterionCast hinted that Breathless was. They're usually quite reliable.

I never managed to catch up with that 4-hour version, so I don't know if the quality is up to snuff. Cinephiles seemed to gush over it, but as long as it was better than the film had ever looked before, they'd be happy (as would I, to tell the truth).

I haven't heard of any newer restoration work being done to the film, so I don't know what the state of their source would be for a current release on Blu-ray.

Rules was one of many films I saw for the first time on Criterion LD, and loved. And I've been upgrading it ever since (got their 2004 DVD release, and then their Blu-ray).

I need to order me Grand Illusion, too. That's a film like Greed where I've been happy with each improvement. Like Rules, I saw it for the first time on Criterion LD. And then their DVD was like day following night. I was sorry that they lost the rights to it before they could get it out on Blu, but the review here at blu-ray.com of the StudioCanal release sounds great.

I've had a bit of a "Criterion break" myself. I've been meaning to get to the local B&N to take advantage of the B2G1 sale, but things seem to keep getting in my way. I ended up ordering some BDs from Amazon that I've been meaning to order for a while now, and can't find locally: Tarkovsky's The Sacrifice, Tran's The Scene of Green Papaya, and Tavernier's Death Watch.
I've been reading up about Greed and all the cuts, as well as the 1999 restoration. When I'm back home for Christmas, I'll probably take a peak for it on TCM, hoping that it airs in the brief window I'll be back.

I also just ordered Tarkovsky's The Sacrifice. I'm currently reading The Films of Andrei Tarkovsky: A Visual Fugue, so I'll be going through his filmography while reading the book. I've already knocked a rewatch of Ivan's Childhood off my watchlist.

I've been dying to see nashville (since everyone seems to love it) and if it gets a Criterion release, I would be a very, very happy man.
I also heard Tootsie is getting a criterion release. If either of the titles comes out in early december, I would definitely tell people to buy me that for christmas.

I watched Stanley Kubrick's Killer's Kiss last night and loved it. It's a no-nonsense low-key work of film noir that makes me think of Blast of Silence or of the Jules Dassin American films.

I'm about to watch The Killing.

I decided to watch Killer's Kiss first, although it is merely included as a supplement on The Killing package, because it's the earlier of the two films, and I want to see how Kubrick evolved.

I am glad that the two movies are on the same disc, but I find it odd that the Criterion cover art only lists The Killing instead of listing both films.

Criterion should be releasing Raoul Walsh's precode "Wild Girl" from 1932 relatively soon.

I hope you enjoy The Killing, that is one awesome noir. Glad you liked Killer's Kiss as well, it's not a great film IMO; but it really has a great sense of style about it.

Really debating wether to get that or continue to wait for a UK release, which doesn't seem to be happening...

I've read a rumor in another thread on this site, or at least I assume it's a rumor but it's possible the person was just being wishful when they said it, but is there any possibility that Criterion has somehow acquired and will be releasing The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly next year? The person who made the comment said that their belief that such a thing was happening was based on "phantom pages on Criterion's website" which makes no sense to me but I've seen that mentioned on other movies before.

Is there any remote truth to this at all or is it nonsense? I know Fox/MGM currently owns it in the US but I guess it's possible they could've licensed it to Criterion. The fact that a remastered version is coming in 2014 was confirmed by Fox Germany.

You are absolutely going to be floored by The Killing if you thought Killer's Kiss was good. Get ready for a very enjoyable film.

All I know is that if Criterion released The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, it would be a smash. No doubt about it.

There has to be a Kurosawa film for December! There hasn't been any the whole year.

The phantom pages can be an indicator of future releases, but as I understand it, they can also exist for other reasons. For example, Criterion might have a page for The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly because of Morricone's work on the film. Do you know what pages the other posters are talking about?
