Welcome to the site, BW!

That would make a terrific release, but many of is speculate we won't see it until mid-2014 at the earliest. I hope I'm wrong though.

Hey Andy - pretty sure you mean Amazon Marketplace, yes?

I have bought a few blu rays in 'like new' condition to save a few bucks and have had absolutely no problem with them. Amazon requires the vendor to provide a disc that is basically brand new. The only thing missing is the packaging. The discs may have gotten a few spins, but are in immaculate condition. I haven't bought anything in "good" or "very good" condition, so if you don't mind.. report back on that!

Welcome!
I haven't seen this particular film but I've heard good things about it. Alfonso Cuaron has been on my radar ever since I first watched Children Of Men. Great director!

I have bought from the Amazon Warehouse several times, including several Criterion blu rays, and have never had a problem. I think you will be fine.

1. Nice avatar!

2. Y Tu Mama Tambien has been mentioned several times in circles of discussion here as a possible Criterion release. I would not be surprised to see it in an announcement any time now, along with The Life Aquatic, which has also been anticipated for a quite a while.

I have no clue what will be announced today, so I will just take a guess.

The Soft Skin
Jules and Jim (BD upgrade)
The Big Chill

Y Tu Mama is still being prepped, they have been waiting for Cuaron to finish Gravity, which took several years to complete. Not sure I expect it super fast, but with Gravity hitting theaters in Oct, I'm anticipating it'll finally roll out next year.

I'm expecting Criterion to time Y Tu Mamá También for the video release of Cuarón's Gravity. I think that's what they usually do (The Ice Storm/Life of Pi).

Thanks, Great Owl! Yeah.. I made my way over from the Hitchcock board. One of these right back at ya!

Cure is in the Criterion Collection on Hulu, so I'm hoping that will see a blu-ray treatment

No, Criterion doesn't have The Mysterians, though it was a film I listed in the "Foreign Films that you'd like CRITERION to release!" thread. I confess that I'm not much into the Kaiju genre, but Chikyû Bôeigun (The Mysterians), Uchû daisensô (Battle in Outer Space), and Nippon chinbotsu (Japan Sinks) are three Japanese SF films I'd love to see Criterion do.

His new film, Gravity is coming out in a few weeks. Looks nail-bitingly suspenseful.

Bwdowiak, are you hoping for some more early Hitchcock? Maybe Lifeboat or The Lodger or, possibly, Blackmail?

Yeah, by all appearances it's going to be a knockout. Can't wait to see it.

how do we go about speculating? anything that hasn't seen a blu ray Criterion release but had a DVD Criterion? or just any great film that merits a Criterion release? and of course, I know that certain films have been rumored or talked about such as "Y Tu Mama"

you bet, man! I had a chance to see "Blackmail" on the big screen here in Chicago a few weeks ago and it was jaw-droppingly awesome. a live orchestra provided the score.. I think they were called "Mont Alto". I couldn't believe a film THAT old could look THAT great. one of my greatest film going experiences. (since we're on the Criterion board.. another great experience was when I saw "3 Women" at Roger Ebert's film festival in Champaign, IL a few years back!)

I saw "Lifeboat" and "The Lodger" on VHS ages ago and while I appreciated them, I can't wait to see them on Blu-ray being that now all of the dialogue is intelligible.

Silent films presented the way they are supposed to. Ah. I can't believe I dropped the chance to see several such shows here at the Plaza Cladsic Film Festival a couple years back--Metropolis being one of them. I won't make the same mistake again, I can promise you that.

I am so envious of your Ebertfest experience too.
