Nashville is a brilliant movie if you get into the satirical groove of the thing. The first time I saw it, it seemed all over the place and I couldn't make head or tails of it, but each subsequent viewing is better than the last. Henry Gibson is just brilliant, and as a Goldblum fan I love his weird magician, biker guy.

+1 for Popeye as well. Paramount released it on DVD and seeing as they've licensed titles to Criterion in the past, I wouldn't rule it out. It was panned at the time of its release but I think its cult reputation has grown, likely from us 30-40 somethings who saw it as kids and just loved it!

Robin Williams was perfect in his Popeye role, ditto for Shelley Duvall (a longtime Altman regular) as Olive Oyl.

So one of the films from MoC's version of the Scorsese World Cinema box, 1989's The Red Flute, will not be on the Criterion box. Could they be saving it for Volume 2?

After the push for BD/DVD combo packs, I'm pretty surprised to see that Grey Gardens is DVD or BD only..

yeah, its a great film in its own unique way.

Although it's interesting that December's Grey Gardens release will be Blu-ray only. I guess they have a large stock of the DVDs.

Their statement that 40% of their business still comes from DVD is actually quite shocking to me. Maybe I just assumed that other Criterion fans are quality freaks like myself, who have long since upgraded to HD, but if you can get Criterion on Blu-ray, why in the hell would you want it on DVD? That confuses me so much. I was wondering why they didn't just nix DVD altogether and go with Blu-ray if they needed to cut costs, but I guess I understand now.

Don't be too surprised because Criterion's statement included blu-ray only upgrades as still happening from time to time.

We’ll still release straight Blu-ray upgrades from time to time, but you can expect all of our new Criterion releases to be dual-format for the foreseeable future. Occasionally, we’ll retire existing DVD and Blu-ray editions and replace both with a single dual-format edition.

Considering Criterion released it on blu-ray in 2009, I would say yes.

Really excited by the Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Project and Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion. Hard to imagine any other US distributor releasing these films.

Hmmm, don't see anything on the artwork stating 'Volume 1'. I'd be interested in a list of films that have been restored. Hafta look around.

Since Criterion's World Cinema Project release states "No. 1" on the cover, I would think that you are correct, sir.
