Gotta have pretty narrow taste to be disappointed by this announcement. Touki Bouki, Nashville and the Housemaid in HD!

The only one that really interests me is Nashville.

And I didn't mean letdown as in the movies suck, I mean it was a letdown because we all had such high hopes for other films and we get this instead.

No way on Earth that such a thing would ever appear on Criterion, though, so I'd be happy just to see the Toho Godzilla films in one place.
I bought those cartoons from Amazon on dvd a while back. I loved Godzooky as a kid.

I go off the site for an hour, and they revael everything . I was expecting a WCF collection one time or another, but I figured it might be a 3-pack like Eureka's version. Happy to see Nashville on there too. I'm not familiar with the others.

I was expecting to see Scanners, and Eraserhead, the latter pehaps being part of a Lynch set. So in that respect, it's a little disappointing, but I can't really knock movies I haven't seen yet.

I am mildly disappointed in this month's announcements, if only because we know some other really amazing stuff is coming). The only must have is Nashville (amazing cover!).
Of course not. But they have released popular titles before (Rosemary's Baby, 12 Angry Men, On the Waterfront, Rushmore, The Blob even, Dazed and Confused), or even look back at their Laserdisc releases. Eraserhead and Mulholland Dr and Scanners and It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World would have fit the bill, and it's disappointing we're not getting at least one of those this year. I'm all for them releasing art house and films from different countries, but you can't forget notable and classic and cult American films. I'll admit I've barely heard of Nashville so I don't know how that one stacks up in their library.

This conversation is pointless unless you have actually seen the films. "This instead" maybe worse, maybe better. Just be, you know, a bit more open minded. "This instead" may be something incredible.

I agree, it's not so bad. Just slightly underwhelming considering the level of expectations people had for December releases.

Just because I was let down because I was expecting OTHER films to be announced, doesn't mean that I think these films suck. I can't say if this film or that film is good when I haven't seen it, let alone heard of it.

However, after doing some research about these films, do all of the subjects interest me? No, but that doesn't mean I'll give them a watch to see how they are.

Take Amarcord, for example. I didn't really think the subject sounded interesting but it's one of my favorite Criterions and possibly films of all time after seeing it.

This is the problem. It seems some people have very narrow and specific tastes. And that's fine, but you can't expect Criterion to please you ever month, or even every few months, if that's the case.

Looks like its 2010 and before restorations. Wonder if A Brighter Summer Day will get a standalone release? This would be cool to get one of these series every December.

Sounds better. I just hate all the announcement day negativity, and you know that.

This should pique your interest on "Investigation"--

I don't because I know that there are people out there right now applauding Criterion for releasing their favorite films. People are different, as are their tastes and preferences - that's a given.
