If by "release date" you mean "within the first week or two of release", then, yes, I do. But not very often, and generally only for titles I can't wait for. And, usually, at these times, I have a "20% off one item" coupon from B&N that I can use.

Others, I wait for B&N sales. Not just the two 50% off sales, but also the B2G1 sales.

Ahhh...it actually does have a "No. 1" on the front of the box. Whether it'll have a special spine number is another question.

It's pretty rare I'll buy Criterions on release day, but it certainly does happen. I generally wait until the B&N sales, as they are basically the only reason I have a B&N membership!

It's 684. Is that special? What makes a spine # special?

D'oh! There, I just had a "Senior Member moment". I forgot that the set had a spine #. I was thinking of a separate spine # sequence like the Eclipse series.

Anyone know if they ever have plans of releasing films like:

Bad Day At Black Rock
Charlie Varrick
Django (Original)

Ah, gotcha. The only "special" spine number i could think of The Devil's Backbone.

I would love to see Bad Day at Black Rock since there are no Tracy or Ryan films in the collection. Two of America's greatest actors square off in this with (IMO) one of the best acting sequences-
[Show spoiler]the chat at the filling station with Tracy stealing the scene
-on film. Can't beat the supporting cast either (Borgnine, Brennan, Marvin, Jagger) with all those Oscars between them.

Django is held by Blue Underground, so no. Bad Day At Black Rock (I wish) is Warner Bros. Outside of Badlands and a rumored deal or maybe a couple titles, nothing has been seen of any further WB films, so at this point it's a no.

Charley Varrick seems to be Universal which means it could be available to Criterion, but no indication of their interest has been seen.

So at this point, no go on all 3.

I was definitely satisfied with Blue Underground's release of Django. The transfer was more than solid.

Here's my write-up on The Fly (1958). This movie would make a fine double-feature with The Blob, although a more offbeat and equally fulfilling double feature would be The Fly and Bigger Than Life. It's a great Blu-ray, whichever way you want to approach it.

Bravo! At first The Fly didn't seem like my cup of tea, but your interestingly written views on this movie makes me wanna watch it sooner than later.

Is it a faux pas to mention the availability of certain Criterion titles in their entirety on YouTube? I'm trying to get some offline friends of mine to warm up to Elevator to the Gallows, and I just found out that it's there.

If I get suspended or banned, then it was great hanging out with y'all!

It's hard to get bored by Repulsion with all the interesting camera shots and Catherine Deneuve being in every scene. Great performance and she looks strikingly beautiful in every frame. She's enough to hold your attention.

Catherine Deneuve is amazing. I would really love to see Melville's Un Flic released on Blu-ray by Criterion.

I'd also love to see this on Blu, whether it's Criterion or Warner does it themselves. The Blue Underground disc of DJANGO is not bad at all, although some newer (and HD) special features Criterion-style might be nice.
