I don't know if I have 41 or in any order, but I do have a HUGE chunk of my Amazon wish list dominated by Criterion.

You won't see a price drop. You'll see sale prices but no price drop off of MSRP.

*Ahem* Make that four Criterion titles.

I replaced my #20 entry, The Last Picture Show, with The Towering Inferno.
Sorry folks, but the teamup of Paul Newman and Steve McQueen cannot be denied. Especially with William Holden, Faye Dunaway, Richard Chamberlain, O.J. Simpson, and just about everyone else on Earth at the time. This movie looks ace on Blu-ray, as well.

I've actually never seen Chinatown before, but I'm going to remedy that in the not-too-distant future. I know, I know...neo noir fail on my part.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is awesomeness, pure and simple, and there was no way that I could not acknowledge it on the list. It's my favorite children's movie ever, and my affinity for the movie goes way way back.

For the 1970s and 1980s, I pretty much have to throw indie credibility under the bus. My 1970s Top 20 includes two Roger Moore Bond films, and I was seriously considering adding Moonraker to make it three (since that's the first James Bond movie that I ever saw, and it sparked my lifelong loyalty to the franchise).

Odd, I'd put Moonraker at the very bottom of the Bond list. Chinatown is an awesome movie, I even really enjoyed the sequel too.

Moonraker has spawned many lifelong loyalties to the Bond series. It came out at the right time for many boys who were swept away with the massive scale of the movie plus BOND IN SPACE! Nostalgia is powerful with this one.

I myself snuck The Spy Who Loved Me into the #20 slot.

One more thought about Moonraker: it's a lot more fun than Die Another Day and Diamonds are Forever. I'd even watch Moonraker before You Only Live Twice (which is think is self-parodic drudgery without the aide of the Roger Moore hinged eyebrow. Connery was just disinterested and this shows in his performance).

But I've written a great amount about 007 for my James Bond Social Media project. See sig.

ps.Just realized you were referring to Eyes...recommendation still stands.

Happy Birthday to Edith Scob (Eyes Without a Face) who turns 76 today.

I did not realize that she has also starred in quite a few other familiar movies. There's Summer Hours, which is also a Criterion title, and one that I still need to see. She also starred in Brotherhood of the Wolf, which was a decently fun spin on horror cinema. She starred in Judex, which was also directed by Georges Franju, and I'm expecting that film to land in Criterion waters at some point. Of course, there's Holy Motors, which we've been discussing here. Last, but not least, she stars in The Ring Finger, which features the beautiful and talented Olga Kurylenko. I saw The Ring Finger a few years back, and would love for it to be released on Blu-ray someday.

Wages of Fear is on the wish list, but so is the remake (Sorcerer), how is the remake when compared with the original?

The first half had me in the throes of ecstasy, but that last hour just gets knotty beyond belief! Being one step behind the narrative definitely took away from my enjoyment a bit. I think it's possible to understand, you just need another viewing.

Yeah, during the final hour, I kept thinking to myself, "Man, this thing will need another viewing for me to really understand it." That won't be anytime soon, obviously, but it will happen.. eventually. There were moments where I would think I knew who a certain character was, but it just wouldn't come to me. I realized a few of them, like, 10 minutes after their appearance (one that was referred by a nickname jogged my memory; forget his name.) The entire thing just requires patience and a really attentive mind.

I kept waiting for Léa Seydoux to make her appearance. What a small part.

I looked up his work beforehand, because I knew absolutely nothing about him. My God, that is one insane resumé.

I sold my old Criterion DVD of Rififi during lunch break. That DVD and I had some great times together. Since the upcoming upgrade will be Dual Format, though, I'll have a backup DVD under my roof anyway.

I used the money to buy Robert Wise's The Haunting and Billy Wilder's Some Like It Hot, so all is good!

Me, too. I cannot wait to get the set tomorrow. I'm going to try my best to start it tomorrow, though my priorities will probably be with watching The Man Who Wasn't There and The Purple Rose Of Cairo before they expire On Demand.

I am curious to hear what you think of the transfer on The Haunting. I just rewatched my DVD copy, and the audio quality alone made me wish I had the upgrade. There were a number of places on the DVD when the dialogue was very hard to understand, even with the volume much louder than I would normally watch something at.

There were a number of places on the DVD when the dialogue was very hard to understand, even with the volume much louder than I would normally watch something at.
I used to own The Haunting on DVD as well, before I unloaded it to make room for the Blu-ray, so I know what you mean. I love this movie dearly, but I'm going to save it for Halloween night, and will post my thoughts shortly after. All of the Blu-ray reviews that I've read are quite complementary, though.

Carrying the discussion back into Criterion waters, Claire Bloom is pretty amazing in The Spy Who Came in from the Cold as well.

Moonraker isn't anywhere close to being the worst Bond movie.

It would be sick if Criterion ever released a steelbook for one of their movies.
