After reading over all of these again, I'm more and more excited about Jules and Jim. My first exposure to it was while watching Vanilla Sky. Since this it's been on my list to watch, but i've never made time for it... guess it's about time to.

Yep, that's pretty much what we get here: Animated dysfunctional foxes in track suits, and Bill Murray playing a badger.
And I still say THIS is the funnier Wes parody, if you read it that way.

I'll be getting the latest Hitchcock release but that's about it. From the responses though, everyone seems happy so I'm at least glad so many people are getting releases they're stoked for! (That means hopefully March will be another "hit" month for me).

I've really enjoyed the Wes Anderson releases but not sure how the animated Wes comes across; I've never seen Fox and I really had no desire to. I might have to Netflix it and see what it's about.

I was hesitant about Fox so I waited for Netflix myself. Was pretty pleased with it once I sat down and watched it. Really a nice movie.. odd.. but nice.

Well the ones in my collection, I like for a variety of reasons.

Rushmore was just a great all around film. The casting was excellent, the story was great and the humor was well placed and not overdone.

The Royal Tenenbaums had such great, flawed characters. A great story, a great setting, loved the out of place surrounding elements like the modern times mixed with throwback elements (IE those beater Gypsy cabs)

The Darjeeling Limited was beautifully shot, (I love train set movies though, a throwback to the Murder On the Orient Express/The Lady Vanishes/Terror By Night etc style movies that I've always enjoyed) so bright, vibrant etc. Plus great chemistry between the 3 main characters.

The Life Aquatic, Bill Murray really nailed it playing the no longer relevant-tortured soul-out for revenge Zissou. Probably my least favorite of the Anderson movies but still a solid film.

I haven't seen Bottle Rocket yet, but I'll get around to buying it after Christmas most likely.

I did not at all care for Bottle Rocket. Just not my taste.

Me, too. I've seen "Bottle Rocket", "Rushmore", and "The Royal Tenenbaums" and did not like any of them. HATED the trailers for "Life Aquatic" (which I probably saw 10 times before other films at the theater) and "The Darjeeling Limited" so did not see them. I have "Fantastic Mr. Fox" but have not viewed it yet. I've pretty much concluded Wes Anderson is just not a writer/director that appeals to me. (Peter Greenaway is another.) I'm sure we all have directors that are just not for us.

So yeah, it disappoints me because Wes Anderson takes another slot that could have gone to someone else (a Kore-eda, or first-timers for Almodovar, Solondz, Tykwer. BTW, why is Sidney Lumet not represented in the Criterion collection? Is it because of which studios have the rights? I’m not knowledgeable on who won’t license to Criterion.)

I'm sure it has alot to do with "rights", and also probably alot to do with a relationship that Anderson has with them. His films probably require very little effort on Criterion's part (comparatively speaking).

Royal Tenenbaums is the only really legitimately great film that Anderson has done IMO. Bottle Rocket is "ok", but it's really only good if you throw in the "low budget debut" caveat. I really loved Rushmore 10 years ago (when I was in high school). It hasn't stood the time nearly as well as Tenenbaums. I haven't seen Life Aquatic, and if you didn't like the others don't waste your time with The Darjeeling Limited - it really was terrible.

I did enjoy Moonrise Kingdom when I saw it in theaters, but his style is almost cliche at this point.

I will also keep my fingers crossed for Elevator to the Gallows, Touchez Pas Au Grisbi, and The Lovers to be upgraded. I've never seen Diary of a Chambermaid, but let's get that one upgraded as well on general principle.

Unfortunately Diary and Touchez have fallen back into the hands of Studio Canal, so that won't ever happen from Criterion (or probably ever considering how often they actually release anything)

Anyone else here really want Odd Man Out? I keep forgetting about it and remember that they've been rumored to have it for ages, but still nothing. Really hope it does surface as I think its just as good as The Third Man in terms of Carol Reed films or thrillers in general.

Funnily enough, I had to check the Olive Films site to make sure. Argh.
