Currently freezing my ass off, waiting for record store day. Store opens in 27 minutes. Can I wait that long for my records? At 7 I'm gonna watch a screening of The great escape. Now you may be asking, what does this have to do with Criterion? Well, if I have time, I may catch up my Criterions. Overall, it'll be a pretty good day

![]() And on top of that, the films are really the biggest draw. Thrilled here in my French-film-loving heart. I'd second Blu Titan--if at all possible, snag this one during the sale. And then there's the 30% more coupon that's good thru this weekend. Last edited by RojD; 11-29-2013 at 02:12 PM. Reason: typo |

outside of the parcel is a price tag "19.99$ disc" , and in the parcel was a 6.99$ cd for someone else. so i might have ended up with the cd instead of the bluray that was acutally meant to be in there. Last edited by Mansinthe; 11-29-2013 at 02:35 PM. |

When I got home last night after spending most of the day with family, I revisited Paris, Texas. This movie inches higher and higher on my all-time favorites list every time I see it, and it's one of the most beautiful Blu-rays out there in terms of transfers of color films. The cinematography is simply out of this world. I always get a little emotional at the end, regardless of how many times I see it. This is the best 1980s movie in the Collection.
I'm content with the Criterion films in my collection right now, at least until the December releases roll out, so I used my Barnes and Noble Black Friday coupon to order A Streetcar Named Desire. I'm thinking that a double feature with On the Waterfront may follow. |

I caught wind of another restoration of the movie coming out at some point in the main forum, so I guess I'm waiting for that. I'd love to see it again, because it's been a while. With respect to Vivian Leigh, I really hope that Criterion upgrades That Hamilton Woman at some point. Leigh is lovely in the film, and the naval battle scenes are worth the price of admission as well. I just finished watching The Maltese Falcon...again. This is one of the top contenders for most repeat viewings on Blu-ray from my collection. Last edited by The Great Owl; 11-29-2013 at 04:55 PM. |

Anyway.. I do love Streetcar and can't wait to sit down and introduce another classic to my wife. Hoping she'll love it like I do. Last edited by lordmorpheus72; 11-29-2013 at 05:06 PM. |

In my opinion, greatest Bogart movie, hands down. I love Casablanca, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and To Have and Have Not, but The Maltese Falcon has it all. I think it's the fact that it is such an incredible example of film noir. I first saw it in a film class in college, and have loved it, and film noir ever since. I really need to add it to my blu-ray collection.

Speaking of Elia Kazan, I've got Panic in the Streets sitting in my big stack of film noirs that I'll be going through for the next month or so, starting tomorrow. I saw Elia Kazan's Wild River a couple of weeks ago, and was blown away. It's a beautiful Blu-ray of an underrated movie. If you are a fan of Lee Remick (Anatomy of a Murder), then I especially recommend this one. Quote:
On the other hand, the existing Blu-ray is quite inexpensive for such a big film. |

I don't know what your preference in films is, but the Qatsi films essentially are a series of images set to music. I watched Koyaanisqatsi some years ago, and while it looked good, I got bored fast especially of the Philip Glass score and I would never consider revisiting it again.

I'm starting my "film noir marathon" this weekend, consisting of the following Blu-rays that I've purchased over the past couple of months... [Show spoiler] December will be a great time to enjoy these movies, and I am predicting that the above discs will make fine editions to the film noir (or film noir-esque) titles that I've already viewed on Blu-ray. [Show spoiler] I've been told that Pale Flower is a good Criterion title for people like me who are interested in film noir, so I may be picking that one up at some point in the not-too-distant future. It goes without saying that I cannot wait for Rififi and Thief to come out on Criterion Blu-ray in January, nor can I wait for The Big Sleep. Last edited by The Great Owl; 11-29-2013 at 05:32 PM. |

On a side note, I was looking over the cast of Wild River and saw that Montgomery Clift is the leading man... which got me thinking that I'd really like to see what Criterion could do with This Misfits! |

The Misfits will probably land in my collection in 2014. I've thoroughly enjoyed the Marilyn Monroe films that I checked out so far (Some Like It Hot, River of No Return, The Seven Year Itch, Niagara), and am gradually working my way through all of them and taking my time. The Asphalt Jungle is the one that I really want to see on Blu-ray, though. That's a great goal for the future, along with the Mickey Spillane stories. |
