I'm not overly anal about handling packaging. For instance, I love Alien/Star Wars type books. That said, I keep the more frequently played digipack titles in a disc carrier. The digipacks look great but they can be way too delicate.

so I come to find out that Bombay Electronics, a store who apparently specializes in region free players is right here in my backyard (Niles, IL)

thinking about picking one up for $105, but for some reason am apprehensive. there just doesn't seem to be a lot of info on the web about them or too many places offering them.

I priced it out at Amazon UK and I can get Double Indemnity, Peeping Tom, Lifeboat, Touch of Evil, and Le Cercle Rouge (stuido canal) for $94.39. I really want LCR and am just thinking... I can try and get one for 60 bucks or so or I can have 4 other movies along with it that all got outstanding blu ray reviews.

anyone have one of these Orei players?

I bought Thief today at B&N for $16 + tax! I used the 20% coupon plus my member discount plus that $10 gift card I was waiting to use (the one that is only active after December 26). So I basically got this at the 50% sale price with coupons!

I almost bought Thief and Rififi (for the buy 2 get 1 free deal) but I couldn't decide on a 3rd title so I just went with Thief.

I have the Region Free Australian Blu-ray of Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat coming to me in the mail soon. The disc reportedly holds up well to the MoC edition.

I'd rather not fool with a Region Free Blu-ray player at present, so I'm hoping that Double Indemnity and Touch of Evil hit these shores soon.

I'm probably going to revisit the Touch of Evil DVD this weekend, because I'm in the mood.

Japan Featured List on Criterion.com

Criterion's web-site has designated a list that I created into the current featured list. It is a list of Akira Kurosawa's favorite films that have received the Criterion treatment.

I think I am going to go with Rififi, On The Waterfront, and The Killing for the B2G1 at Barnes and Noble. I got some more coupons to burn off so I should be able to get an even better deal.

Hmm. The oscar nominations are up, but Blue is the Warmest Color doesn't get a nom for Best Foreign Language feature. Puzzling, very puzzling.

This has been known for a few weeks - it was ineligible for a rather overcomplicated reason.

Nope. It needed to be release in its country of origin (France) by September and it was released in October so it's ineligible this year. Maybe next year though

That would be fair. The Night of the Hunter case is essentially the original digipack case but bigger.

I think you'll be pleased with the Aussie "Lifeboat". It appears that Shock/Veg used the same transfer that was used for the MoC version. Lifeboat will never look pristine, but this is the best I've ever seen it. In fact, I've gotten several of the Shock/Veg "Hollywood Gold Series" blu's over the past couple of months (they are all region free despite the Region B labeling) including Lifeboat, The Devil's Brigade, and Journey to the Centre of the Earth (which used the same transfer as the Twilight Time release). They have all looked great so far.

I'm considering ordering the Hollywood Gold Series releases of "Exodus", "Bandolero", and "The Unforgiven" (Lancaster and Hepburn) in the near future.

Here's a link to all their releases, in case you're interested:

I've said that a few times in this topic and agree with you wholeheartedly! If the restoration is done well, this could be a fantastic release. I would be thrilled if it came out this year.
