I've got their Sexy Beast release. It's beautiful.

And talk about a movie that needs to be re-released in its original theatrical version....

Not that that wouldn't make a great set.

I just received the Warner Archive Blu-ray of Fearless. I'm looking forward to watching it, though I'm too busy until after the weekend.
I bought Fearless on the Warner archive BD edition a few months ago when it was just released. Fantastic transfer and all around amazing film full of drama. Since I grew up in the 90s, its not a surprise that the most films in my collection are in the 1990s and this film is no exception. I remember seeing this movie when it was just released (I was about 15 years old then). I'd love to see more Weir films on blu-ray though, especially Witness.

This is random, but I would like to see Criterion get the license to 'This boys life". It needs a bluray release and seems like a film they would release...

No, not really. Since I started my professional career over 36 years ago, I've never worked for a company that offered President's Day as a paid holiday. My wife's never gotten it off, either.

Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's are pretty much the guaranteed days off. Everything else is iffy, depending on the state and on the company you work for. I used to get Patriots Day off; my wife never has. She gets Civil Rights Day (what we call Martin Luther King's birthday in New Hampshire) off; I never have.

For most people, the stretch from New Year's to Memorial Day is largely holiday-less.

Funny you should say that, I actually recommended it to them via email couple months ago.

My wife works at a CU; they get Federal holidays, but not state holidays off. I'm happy to say that after 40+ years of working most of my days are holidays now.

On Tuesday, February 18th, Ingmar Bergman’s The Virgin Spring and Through A Glass Darkly will be available in HD on the Criterion Collection’s iTunes channel.

Hopefully it's a sign that one of them will be getting a blu release soon. Probably The Virgin Spring.

I work for state government, and, although we receive generous holiday leave by anyone's standards, we work on President's Day.

Payday today, so I ordered a bunch of cheap film noir DVDs from Amazon to start with.

Completing my Fox Film Noir series with...

House on Telegraph Hill
Kiss of Death
14 Hours
Shock
Dangerous Crossing
The House on 92nd Street
Call Northside 777
No Way Out
Moontide
Road House
Somewhere in the Night
Vicki

Plus...

Columbia Pictures Film Noir Classics I (The Big Heat/5 Against the House/The Lineup/Murder By Contract/The Sniper)
[I own the Twilight Time Blu-ray of The Big Heat, but I want the others here, mainly Don Siegel's The Lineup.]

Columbia Pictures Film Noir Classics II (Human Desire/The Brothers Rico/Nightfall/City of Fear/Pushover)

Finally...

Pitfall (I enjoyed watching this public domain film noir on YouTube months ago, but I want a physical copy.)

I'll be adding some Criterion Blu-rays soon, though.

It's funny that I hesitate to buy non-Criterion movies just because I'd rather spend the money on a Criterion! I feel that if the movie isn't a Criterion it isn't "up-to-par" due to the lack of features, or packaging. Anyone else have this "problem"?

Not before a Criterion release of his best and most underrated film The Year of Living Dangerously. Peter Weir is probably my favorite director so I'd love for all of his films to receive top notch blu ray releases. Criterion or any studio that would take the time to do it right.

guess I'm one of the few who will have President's Day off. whoot! whoot! hoping to watch The Best Years of Our Lives. Will probably watch Middle of the Night (it's in the Kim Novak 5 DVD set I bought) as a warm up. I'm not familiar with the actor, but both films feature Fredric March, so that's the connection.

BYoOL is 3 hours, so if I have time for another one, that'd be great. We'll see.

I pretty much own all of the existing Criterion Blu-ray titles that I really need, save for the new releases as they come out. I'm hoping to grab Jules and Jim this weekend, and I'll be buying Foreign Correspondent and Tess later in the month.

"Most underrated" is hard to define, but I wouldn't call The Year of Living Dangerously his best film, though it's certainly up toward the top. My personal favorite of his is The Last Wave, but if I had to pick a "best", I'd probably pick The Mosquito Coast.

if you have a preference for buying films that come with a lot of bonus features, I don't see anything wrong with that. not all Criterion discs, however, are loaded with bonus content and not all non-Criterion titles have 'next to nothing'.

if you discriminate based on the distributing studio, you'll miss out on many great films. Criterion is #1, IMO, but if it's Criterion versus the field, I'd take the field (probably only by a narrow margin)
