Last night, I started watching the Cohen Media Blu-ray of D.W. Griffith's Intolerance. I was tired from work and from the gym, though, so I did not quite have the mojo to make it all of the way through the 168-minute epic in one night. I'll watch the second half tonight, and then watch Tess this weekend. From what I saw, though, Intolerance looks astoundingly good for such an old movie, and the attention to detail that went into those set pieces is quite brilliant.

are they actually selling at that price? based on what I have seen, I don't think they are. there is actually a blu-ray only copy of Frances Ha that has been sitting on ebay forever for only $9.99. I have toyed with the idea of hitting up some of the folks who'd like to get rid of their dvd copies of some of the titles in the dual format. there's no way, however that I'm paying $15.

LOL seems like some people buy the dual format editions and don't have a use for the blu-ray.

interesting.. I didn't realize that you can search like that. many of the DVDs that moved were closer to like $10 it seems with a few outliers getting more. I can see that Zaitochi set moving.. a few of the sales even offered the case.

Yeah, it's a head scratcher. Some people will never adopt the format. Might as well make money from it.

interesting thought... if you only wanted the DVD disc and are willing to let the case, the art, and blu-ray copy go, you can probably get your movies for free since I don't think everyone buying the blu-ray copy would be upset if the DVD copy is missing. since I see many of my Criterion titles on DVD courtesy of the public library, I can vouch for many of these films looking stunning even in the DVD format. Sweet Smell of Success and La Notte come to mind.
