I saw Where the Sidewalk Ends on 35mm last year and it was stunningly beautiful. Absolute top-tier film. I saw Act of Violence as well, not 5 star for me but liked it a lot. In a Lonely Place, obviously great. Need to see Kansas City Confidential though...

We used to drive through Phenix City all of the time, and some high school friends live there now. Sadly, the film is based on a real assassination that occurred in the city due to the organized crime.

I do not have 99 River Street. I'm saving that until I delve further into the film noir rabbit hole after I finish watching everything in my current stack.
Yeah, I was reading up on that after I watched the movie. A real dark place in American history.
I was actually quite surprised how much they were able to show in the movie, its a real powerful piece of film making and its been a long time since something made me as angry as that.
Totally recommended!
99 River Street was in the top discoveries from my noir marathon (which still isn't finished either) and also has John Payne leading. You're really gonna dig that one, I can tell already.

Lucky bastard! Where The Sidewalk Ends is my favorite Otto Preminger noir.
Did manage to catch Act Of Violence when the Film Forum was doing this Robert Ryan retrospective in new york and thought it was great. Really entertaining!
Definitely get on Kansas City Confidential, its pulpy B-noir fun that shouldn't be missed!
and In a Lonely Place is top 3 material!

What are the odds of Broken Circle Breakdown getting the CC treatment?

I'd recommend watching them in order. Hi, Mom! is a sequel...albeit a fairly loose one. That said, the films are so disjointed anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing Hi, Mom! as the main feature, with Greetings as a supplement. It would be the smarter move for Criterion, to feature the more widely recognized film.

Though I have my doubts that it'll ever happen, either way.

Now there's a movie I haven't seen in almost 20 years.

Wait...20 years? Dammit. I'm old.

The 50th anniversary of the UK release of the film is July 6. Criterion releasing the film 7/1 or even 7/8 - both Tuesdays- makes sense.

Hope Polanski's The Tenant turns up today, although I doubt it.

Also what's up with the Lynch titles? Why hasn't Mulholland Drive turned up yet?

Because there was never an official clue. Criterion just reblogged a Mulholland drive related post on tumblr and assumptions were made. Of course it would be a nice surprise if it did happen but let's not hold our breath. It likely won't.

Sam Smith who designed a few covers, House, Qatsi trilogy etc did a poster for a screening of Mulholland Dr and it had a VERY criterion feel to it haha, if they were to release I hope they use his designs.

Why should it? Criterion never once hinted it was a potential release.

With Throne of Blood in January and The Hidden Fortress in May, I don't think we'll see any more Kurosawa until the latter part of the year.

I'm from LaGrange, too, but, while I've been to Columbus countless times, I've only been to Phenix City once, when the Grangers played Spencer at the Stagg Bowl stadium in 1977.

Small world! If you went to LaGrange High School during the late 1970s, then you might have been taught by one or both of my parents, since they both worked there. If you played football at LaGrange High, then you would have been coached by my father. In 1977, though, I was in kindergarten at the First Methodist Church in the middle of town.

Back on Criterion topics...

Someone mentioned Le Samouraļ. I cross my fingers every month for this film to be upgraded to Blu-ray, but the existing French transfer is pretty bad (I have the French Pathe Blu-ray to prove it.). I'd love for Criterion to stumble across a good high definition presentation of this movie.

It's a perfect month (June) to upgrade both Picnic at Hanging Rock and Summertime.
