Enjoy I watched Ministry of Fear not long back and gave it a very solid 8/10 score. Metropolis is just For its day, just

And on a sad note, so sad to read that Bob Hoskins has passed. So many great films, but I'll always remember him in The Wall, Hook, and of course Roger Rabbit. RIP Bob.
Watched Felicia's Journey last night. Mesmerizing performance by Hoskins. There's one point later in the film where he looks directly into the camera, and it sends chills down the spine. This film really needs a good transfer on Blu-ray. The Artisan DVD is far too soft (though I've seen worse).

Thanks jayembee! And I'll have to check out Felicia's Journey, it's one I haven't seen!

Yeah, I started watching Metropolis the other day, and just didn't have time to really sit and enjoy it, so I put it back for another day. But the first few minutes seemed amazing...

So good. It's also in my top 10, which looks something like:

1. The Passion of Joan of Arc
2. Dr. Mabuse, The Gambler
3. Lonesome
4. Safety Last!
5. Sunrise
6. Strike
7. The Kid
8. Coeur Fidele
9. Battleship Potemkin
10. Nosferatu

Another great film, I love MOC's release. Though, in terms of Lang's epic silents, Mabuse comes out on top for me.

Anyone know yet if we are, definitively, getting a digibook/pack release of Ace in the Hole next Tuesday?

I believe it is just the standard case, not a digibook/pack.

Usually Pro-B updates the listing on the site after he reviews it if it is indeed a digibook/pack.

Good news. I'll upgrade for PQ reasons, obviously. If Mona Lisa includes the commentary with Jordan and Hoskins then I'll get rid of the Criterion release.

I'm the proud owner of Il Sorpasso, after using a 20% off coupon in conjunction with the 20% off sticker price and my membership to buy it for $24.

I ought not to keep buying Blu-rays since I'm behind on my still-unwatched stack, but I like to buy the Dual Format digipaks when they're still in great condition.

At any rate, Il Sorpasso seems like a cool summer flick.

Sadly, my coupon expires before Ace in the Hole comes out next week. That's going to be mine right off the bat.

Pretty sure that we are all behind. Makes me kinda uneasy, actually.

I buy stuff and then feel inclined to watch something else and end up getting it from the library, watching it on Hulu or Netflix, or whatever.

Non CC, but as a follow up to posts ages ago.. regarding past Fox Connect scores... I did get around to seeing The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Nice film. Great buy for the 8 bucks! The two principals are fantastic, but the big realization was that George Sanders brought the goods in yet another role. He's in the CC, so there's your connection!

The other one I saw was Elia Kazan's Panic In the Streets. Another great buy. I needed something fun to watch after seeing two Bergmans and Godard's Weekend over the past week or so.. too heavy. Needed something light and fun and PITS was a good remedy.

Might be best to hold off in any case - at the end of May there's a 40% off all BDs in store sale at BN.

I knew it had to be coming up soon, just couldn't remember if it was May or not.

Panic in the Streets is an awesome movie. Another great feather in the cap for 20th Century Fox, along with Laura. I wish that they would upgrade their other Film Noir series DVDs (Nightmare Alley, Where the Sidewalk Ends, etc.).

I've got two copies of Panic in the Streets at present, since I bought the individual Blu-ray several months ago, and then bought the Kazan Volume 1 set with the same disc included so that I could have Boomerang and Gentleman's Agreement. I can't quite bring myself to part with the individual disc, though, despite the redundancy.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is in my still-unwatched Blu-ray stack.

Tonight's selection from my still-unwatched Blu-ray stack, however, will be Blood Simple. I'm tired of reading everyone's Coen Brothers lists here without having seen this film.
Of course, I did not bother making my own Coen Brothers list, because, in my mind, there's No Country for Old Men, and then there's everything else. That could always change after tonight, though.

I just tried to get my 15% coupons changed to 20% member ones, but seems like that was a lost cause. Guess I'll start with a fresh new membership with a different email next time.

Anyway good to see there's a 20% off sticker on it, I've been catching/keeping up with the cardboard since online seems to be a bust for me getting it in decent shape. Probably should wait, but the long in the tooth cardboard on the shelves seems to look the worse for wear around here. By the time the 50% off sale rolls around, it probably will all look like that.
