If you enjoyed 3 women, Picnic should be right up your alley.

With the release of Picnic, I hope the appreciation for Peter Weir rises. It's a shame that he is so underrated. Even a film like, say, Green Card which on the surface would just be fluff - he infuses his magic and makes it something more.

Criterion should offer a 'choose your case' option on check-out. That way nobody is upset with their purchase. Those choosing 'no case preference' will get $5 off their purchase.

but wouldnt that be way more expensive for criterion? i think they decided for dual format release so save money. if they would now do DVD / BD single releases , dual format releases that would end up being much more expensive...

Or ... tack on an extra $5 (or more) if you have a preference.

Im going to rent Macbeth first... but Eraserhead and The Innocents shall be mine !!
Speaking of Lynch I revisited Mulholland Drive last night, God damn I love that film...it is such a *trip* It took me 2-3 viewings to see things to help figure it all out (and Wikipedia and IMDB) It was my first Lynch movie ..
and I was supposed to rent Mulholland Falls .. I was glad I rented the wrong movie, as Ive loved it ever since - still my favorite Lynch film

That's great to hear! I agree that he doesn't get the appreciation he deserves. I'm not familiar with any of Peter Weir's work, before Gallipoli, so watching Picnic at Hanging Rock should be a treat.

It would be but I don't think Criterion anticipated some buyers are more interested in the packaging than the film.

I took a date to see The Dreamers. Great date movie, huh? The first two times I saw it, I was quite fond of it, but knew it was flawed. I saw about 30 minutes of it on HBO last year and found it pretty pointless.

All of the film references are cool, though. ..and it was the first time I had ever heard Jimi Hendrix's 3rd Stone From The Sun. Super cool.

So.. I just bought a ticket to see 2001 in 70mm. I've never experienced a film in this format, and the fact that it's this film.. well, I'm really excited.

Anyone ever see a film in 70mm? Was the experience noticeably better? I know this isn't really Criterion related, but I figure some of you have seen something in the format (Playtime, perhaps? )

I'm planning on seeing Lawrence of Arabia next month. Confession: I've never seen it. The art theater here in Chicago is showing The Master, Patton, Spartacus, 2001, and Lawrence of Arabia in 70mm. Looking fwd to it!

of course! knowing that you've been to EbertFest, but not knowing where you're at in the U.S., I thought maybe you were going to the same theater.

There are 4 others showing in 70MM, too. Check it out:
