I have seen them all. It's hard for me to choose, Hitch is probably my favourite director, but let's say:

Foreign Correspondent
The Lady Vanishes
The 39 Steps
The Man Who Knew Too Much

But the first two are easily interchangeable, and the third isn't too far behind.

All are outstanding films, The Lady Vanishes has the added benefit of Crook's Tour being included as well.

In other words, I should blindly choose between Lady Vanishes and Foreign Correspondent.

Yeah, you can't go wrong with those.

There is a special feature on the special effects in Foreign Correspondent that I really loved - Definitely one of those supplements that lifts your appreciation of a film.

We didn't really love Crook's Tour, but it is pretty nice to have it included.

Ha! I know I'm certainly in the minority in my great like for 39 Steps and my rather mild like, comparatively, for Lady Vanishes. I really like the setting of 39 Steps.

While I'm at it, cancelled my pre-orders at Amazon and switched it to B&N, so I can get these bad boys on sale:
  • Insomnia
  • Scanners
I remember Scanners being awesome, can't wait to revisit it on a proper HD edition. Insomnia will be another blind-buy. I did enjoy Nolan's remake, so I figure the original's got to be worthwhile too.

Oh, I love The 39 Steps too. Also the novel, even though the two diverge pretty dramatically.

39 Steps was my favourite of the lot for a while. I guess I've seen it the most of the movies on the list.

My top three are all very close together.

While I'm at it, for those who have seen it, how good is Suspicion? I can't decide whether or not to keep it on my DVR, always running out of space.

I remember liking Suspicion in general. A bit of a slow-burner with more emphasis on characters and toying around with audience perception than building intrigue and conflict, but I remember thinking it was well-made and fairly suspenseful. I probably graded it somewhere between a 3.5/5 to a 4/5.

Better watch it once then delete it, so you can free up the room.

I like it but get a little tired of Grant's pet name for Fontaine. Would make for a good drinking game though and, by this time, Nigel Bruce was in his full Dr. Watson mannerisms.

It's not exactly light (and it's definitely not fluffy) but it's not Notorious or Rebecca either. I didn't love it the first time I watched it a few years ago but I too recently DVRed it and enjoyed it a lot more this time around.

It's worth a look.

Ok. Thanks everyone. I'll make sure to give it a watch. I still do have quite a bit of Hitchcock's filmography to watch.

I'm keeping it light tomorrow and picking up The Great Beauty and Jules and Jim. I was able to buy The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Fantastic Mr. Fox at Costco for $20 each so that cut my B&N purchases in half. There are probably others I could get, but I think I'll just stick to those two and wait til November for any others.

Heads up - 3 Silent Classics by Josef von Sternberg is now OOP, per Criterion website.

Not blu-ray, but seems to be showing up BN.com, so probably your last chance to grab it at a reasonable price for anyone who's been thinking about it.

Okay, I am going to step into Barnes and Noble later today (Tuesday) to make my first purchases of the 50% off sale. Get ready, bank account/credit card, you're about to get spent.

About two weeks ago, I saw the criminally underrated documentary StreetWise. It had left such an impact on me, I thought it was worth writing to Criterion as a possible recommendation. Two weeks later I get an email back from Jon Mulvaney stating.

"Thank you for your email, and for the suggestion - I'll be sure to pass it along to my colleagues. I was lucky enough to see Streetwise screened from a 16mm print just last year, and I must agree, it's a film that keeps more beautiful as it age."

Here's to wishful thinking, hopefully something may come out of this!
