My first Criterion might have been Brazil. Maybe even Chungking Express or Chasing Amy. I can't remember—when I first picked up the Criterion Collection, Netflix was brand new so I wasn't really into collecting as much.

But my pick would be Harold and Maude, as that's what's kick-started this whole dive back into Criterion collecting. I blind-bought it during a November sale a couple of years ago and it's become one of my favorite films of all time.

Been delaying:

1. Rules of the Game - rented it out. Didn't care for it. A week later, I get it as a birthday present. Need to rewatch and give it a chance.
2. Complete Jean Vigo - haven't been in the mood for it.

Usually, films that I blind buy and not see in a year I sell at cost. Give it to someone who would appreciate it.

First Blu-Ray Criterions: The 400 Blows (because it's awesome), Chungking Express (because it's awesome) and The Third Man (because I was curious). This was when Criterion first jumped into Blu-Ray and I had to find ways to get a region A player because I'm in a Region B region.

On DVD, it was probably Amarcord. Or Dazed and Confused.

And yeah, I've not watched Shoah, Life and Death of Colonol Blimp, Le Cercle Rouge, Solaris, The 400 Blows, The Killing, and Tokyo Drifter......I guess i'm lazy (and partly sometimes youre just waiting for just the right mood to watch)

haha, it did for so many of us. We are collecting his films, apparently. This according to my lady. Never watched a bad Kurosawa so far.

So far for this sale finally picked up Yojimbo/Sanjuro box set, Rashomon, Hidden Fortress, Throne of Blood, and Kagemusha. Waiting for the Blu upgrade to them all and the 50% off sale was so worth it.

So, I just got back from B&N with my Criterion haul. I'm not as rich as some of you, so I was only able to pick up 4 titles.

Titles I bought:

Persona
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Blow Out
8 1/2

All of them are blind-buys, so I am really excited to check all of these out.

I also picked up the miraculous film Under the Skin, which is my favorite film of 2014 so far.

In conclusion, I had a pretty great day.

FIrst Criterion: On the Waterfront.
Why? One of my goals when I started getting serious about my blu ray collection was to collect as many films as I could from the AFI's list of top 100 American movies. OTW is #8 on the 1997 list and #19 on the 2007 list. Not to mention Brando, Steiger, and Kazan. It's more than a contender!

Most recent (as of two hours ago): BBS Story.
Why? Easy Rider (also on the AFI list) and Last Picture Show (Cloris Leachman just blows me away in the kitchen scene). Five Easy Pieces and Head are also interesting, less so King of Marvin Gardens. Drive, He Said and A Safe Place are total blind buys for me.

I have a bunch that I mean to pick up before the current B&N sale is over. After that, I'll be cutting back my blu-ray purchases to absolute essentials for a while, or at least until the next sale

So many blu rays, so little time.

I just bought the Zavvi steel book limited to 2000, such a beautiful steel book - and the film, its INCREDIBLE, I was blown away by it, SJ actually felt alien, she didn't seem human - I forgot it was her, such a transformation. The score was so fitting and really added to the alienation and mystery behind her character.

Incredible film, so haunting and powerful.

Picnic is a great film, so yeah great little haul you got there

Mine was The Qatsi Trilogy because I was obsessed with it, the visuals, the score and the emotional impact it had on me - also because the artwork was a stunning representation of the films in the set.

That's when my addiction to Criterion started haha
Mine was The Red Shoes and it was because I saw Black Swan in theaters and then learned that it was based in that film. That's how I discovered the big C and I'm so glad I did!

Ah! I loved Black Swan, huge fan of Ballet and Swan Lake and it was after seeing that film I was made aware of The Red Shoes, superb film and absolutely gorgeous to watch!

Thanks Polaroid!

Yeah, Under the Skin is one of my all-time favorite films, I loved it to pieces.

And yes, I can't wait to go through these Criterions. I didn't know how much money I would have left after buying three Criterions, so when I had enough for another title, I ran back for Picnic at Hanging Rock.

I found Picnic so mysterious and its a film that stays with me, I can't stop revisiting it and trying to figure it out - also comes with the book which is a nice add on

But yeah, it may come across as slow to some but for me the pacing is great and it's so mysterious - I can't fault it tbh

Charade was my gateway drug from classic Hollywood into the CC and then to an interest in foreign film in general. I became obsessed with Fellini and then things took a drastic turn for the worse when I couldn't stop watching Bergman.

I now cower in existential dread when once all I cared about was zipping through the streets of Rome with Audrey Hepburn.

Be careful. Be very very careful.

I don't own a single Criterion but I plan to pick up In The Mood For Love, which is a film I absolutely love, when I can find it at a reasonable price.

How many other people have bought Red River? I used an "$8 off $40 or more" coupon at B&N yesterday and got it for $14 (normally priced at $50). This is my first "classic" western in the collection (excluding Heaven's Gate) as I'm not a fan of them but I figured this is better than Jubal, Stagecoach, 3:10 to Yuma, The Furies, the 2 Fuller Westerns or the upcoming title of My Darling Clementine.

I love mysterious cinema, as evident for my love for Under the Skin, so I'm really excited for Picnic at Hanging Rock. I'm glad you like the film, as you have great taste.

And yes, the book is a nice add on. Just a classy package all around.

ahh! okay, I give. With the blu ray release (finally) with the book, I have gotten curious again. Years ago I watched picnic at hanging rock and didn't know what to think of it. Definitely stuck with me but forget a lot. I am able to rent from my local library, so gonna check it out again. If I like its getting up toward the top of the list.
