Just noticed there are only two announcements left for the year for more Chaplin releases, hopefully we will still get one before the year end.

Any ideas on which one is the most likely?

I'm hoping for The Kid but not sure if they would release it alone (because of its short running time) i was thinking it would be nice to get it in a double set (not sure of the running times so not sure if they would fit a single disc) with the other shorts they have the rights to

Edit: just checked Criterion hulu channel and it seems they have the rights to the complete First National Chaplin Catalog, which including The Kid (9 films between shorts and features) runs at around 5 hours.

At first I read "The Shootist." My heart skipped a beat... then I read it correctly. :/ Those titles definitely sound interesting though.

If you haven't seen this video comparison of Forrest Gump and Benjamin Button, it's very funny:

Sorry if that bothers you. But "hate" really is much too strong a word for the opinions expressed here. I mean, my response was that it wasn't a bad film, just not a great film. I like it, but I don't love it, and I don't want to see that characterized as hating the film. When I hate a film, I make no bones about saying that I hate it. It strikes me that the other opinions expressed here about the film were much the same.

I should add that I have a cousin who's been driving me crazy lately because after saying that I hated a few films that he happened to like (Wanted, District 9, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine come to mind), he seems to have gotten it into his head that if I don't express an overwhelmingly positive opinion of a film, I must hate it.

Of the features that Chaplin made, the ones left unreleased by Criterion are: The Kid, A Woman of Paris, The Circus, Limelight, and A King in New York. Of those, The Kid seems most likely for the next release.

As far as "beefing up" a release of The Kid, back when Image and CBS/Fox released a set of the Chaplin films on DVD, they doubled up The Kid with the 30-minute short "A Dog's Life", which made for a reasonably lengthy disc. They also happened to release A King in New York and A Woman of Paris together, which was unnecessary, as each one was long enough for its own release.

I've watched 75% of the Criterion Blu-ray releases that I own (83, counting multiple film sets as 1). A majority of the films I buy are blindbuys based on RIYL's and lurking on this fine forum

I really love it - it has great acting, mysterious and fresh story, great soundtrack, emotion, depth and brilliant character development... and Cate Blanchett!

It's not perfect but I think its pretty damn good! Just wish Criterion Bluray didn't have that BLUE CASE UGH!
Like everybody else said...what hate?

I actually used to dislike the movie. Same reason why I dislike various other dramas: it seemed like one of those movies that didn't really have a plot, point, or direction. I expect most movies to give me a story with conflict, not just ramble on about people, jeez.

I decided to be a Fincher completist and got the movie when it was good and cheap. I rewatched it recently and loved it more the second time around. I enjoyed the overall look, style, performances, and quality of the film, and I could dig the themes better. I'd still say it's a bit dry, but still great.

As stated I didn't mean hate lol should ahem said negativity :P

I don't think the Hospital scenes in BB were needed tbh, It did make it drag a little and wasn't THAT important, like it didn't change story much.

It may have dragged the pacing a bit, but I never minded the framed narrative structure it set up that way. But now that you mention it, it probably could have worked just as well without it.

There do seem to be a lot of anti- Wes Anderson opinions in general. His movies are not to everyone's tastes but I would submit that is no movie in the CC that is to everyone's tastes.

Before this sale I had whittled my unwatched BDs down to just 1: Seven Samurai (the length is keeping me from watching it, it's been a year! )

As for Benjamin Button, I saw it in the theater, thought it was good/decent, just didn't need to really see it again. I might pick it up at some point and rewatch it because of Fincher and Pitt, and being so cheap.

It's just out of his movies, that is one that seems to get the least amount of love. Haven't seen that one yet myself (Bottle Rocket).

I try to see every CC film released in blu ray (since otherwise i would never catch up with their dvd releases, it is already hard because of box sets, etc) before i purchase, and that is part of the reason there is a large chunk of my blu ray collection still unwatched since there has been very few time since i last seen it, i try to give it at least a year or two before watching the film a second time, the only CC titles i watch right away are the few i blind bought due to it being of certain director that i really like.

Also noticed that my buying percentage of CC blu rays is at around 40% of every CC title i watch, which i think it's a bit high, certainly higher than with any other label.

Earlier this week I rewatched my DVD of "Trouble in Paradise". Boy does that one need to be put on Blu-ray! It is one of my favorite Criterion titles and my very favorite Lubitsch. Any hints of it being in the works?
