Just wait until the next Criterion flash sale and add it to an order over $50 to get free shipping.

Makes sense. Still rather annoying. I just can't believe the case & artwork at $5 is already a little much, and then $6 for shipping on top of that is ridiculous.

Criterion using "Second printing" or later is a fairly rare occurrence. Only a few of the earliest titles on laserdisc had noted second or third printings. A handful of DVDs had noted second printings, though they were typically instances of a correction being made (eg. their first printing of The Magic Flute had the left & right audio channels swapped; the second printing corrected that).

As for Blu-rays, I only know of two specific instances in which a disc is labelled a second printing. One is Chungking Express, which was reissued with a plastic case sometime before it went OOP, and those were "Second Printing[s]". I don't have one, but I saw one at my local B&N back when. A similar reissue of Bottle Rocket in a plastic case still seems to be labelled "First Printing".

The other labelled "Second Printing" that I'm aware of is the corrected-audio version of White in the Three Colors set. The "Second Printing" statement appears on the disc label itself. I imagine that that was done specifically so people would be able to tell whether their copy was corrected or not. I have no idea if newer copies of the set say "Second Printing" on the back of the package.

Yeah, they should give it away.

They should give them away, I agree. Maybe just require you to send a photo to them to prove that you own it or something.
Since Hunter got a plastic case, I wonder if others will?

Yeah, it probably doesn't cost them anything to produce either. They won't lose any money at all giving them away.

Stats! Looks like my collection is pretty different to the others posted so far. This is out of 252 Blu Rays.

Top five studios:

37.6% Criterion
18.6% Disney/Buena Vista
8.8% 20th Century Fox
6.7% Paramount
5.7% Olive Films

My wife a I are big Disney nerds, in fact it's what convinced us to switch to Blu Ray.

Top five production years:

25.5% 1950s
17.1% 1960s
15.5% 1940s
12.7% 2010s
9.2% 2000s

Not sure how accurate all of these stats are, mind you, since it says I have 0.4% 1910s movies in my collection, but if I follow the link, there are no movies listed...

Strongly overrepresented: Animation, Film-Noir, Foreign, Musical

Overrepresented: Coming of age, Family, Imaginary, Period, Psychological thriller, Romance, Surreal

Underrepresented: Action, Documentary, Epic, History, Melodrama, Teen

Strongly underrepresented: Anime, Biography, Erotic, Holiday, Horror, Martial arts, Music, Other, Short, Sport, Supernatural

Dear Criterion,

Why is there not enough Bunuel in high definition? Remember that guy? He's a Spanish surrealist who made movies other than just Bella De Jour.

[Yeah yeah... I know CC lost the rights to most of Bunuel's stuff but there is still Exterminating Angel and Viridiana, I'd kill for a Milky Way blu.]

It's been a while but there had been times where if you e-mailed Jon Mulvaney (?) at Criterion occasionally they'd provide a booklet without charge; not 100% sure on cases.

I watched Insomnia last night and loved it. Now I just want to see the Nolan remake next. I remember that one being a very good remake with Al Pacino and Robin Williams. But Stellan Skarsgard was devilishly good.

Apologies if this has already been discussed but what Criterion titles have the lowest review scores on the site. I know Tiny Furniture has a 3/5 rating, are any lower than that?
