Yes. Re-releases are a part of the contracts that he has with studios that release his work. He asks that they allow future re-releases under The Criterion Collection.

Moonrise Kingdom might be released next year as he is currently recording a new commentary. I've also seen some artwork his brother has made for the release, although it is still pending approval (so we might see a completely different cover done by someone else, although his brother is the best bet).

A release for The Grand Budapest Hotel near Oscar time isn't too far fetched, but I'm pretty sure that the contracts state that a certain amount of time must pass before they can be re-released again.

A combination of any of those would be one of the best box sets ever in my opinion. And then there's the Before trilogy. And we're getting Boyhood at some point...
Wow never realized he did A Scanner Darkly! Underrated movie!

I saw it when it came out but not since then. It's a smaller film but worth it alone for Christian McKay's portrayal of Welles.

When I look in your eyes I see...magnificence!

So I sat down to watch the Bergman faith trilogy that I recorded from TCM and... it was something else. The films it recorded were joined in progress AND totally unrelated to what I wanted, talk about a bummer.

It did record Paths of Glory. I don't usually get angry at a movie but that movie made me VERY angry.
[Show spoiler]To see a glory hound tactless general order a suicide mission and then scapegoat the men as cowards when it fails was bad enough, but to repeatedly demand that his artillery shell his own men? Wow, talk about an *******. And then to lie about it and act as if it's an attempt at settling a personal vendetta? Wow.. douchebag played to perfection!

Despite the movie making me very angry, I loved it. It was paced really well and Kirk Douglas was excellent!

I love this line from Douglas:

Yeah, they cancelled their Bergman marathon for a James Garner tribute.

No Criterion Like Father, Like Son. It was released by MPI HOME VIDEO last month (Only DVD).

I recommend you people's try that movie on for size, it's on Netflix so it'll cost you pennies for the minute to watch it. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Bernie, The Newton Boys, and A Scanner Darkly are all on blu-ray. SubUrbia and Waking Life would be an awesome Criterion. The Newton Boys and Me and Orson Welles should be kept far, far away.

Linklater's Suburbia (1996) is a nice, small independent film. Even though the premise sounds dull (a group of 20-something slackers hanging around a convenience store all night), this is well-done. I agree this would make a great Blu Criterion release.

Note that as far as I know, Suburbia has not even been released to regular DVD...

Didn't realize that those three were out! Heading on over to Amazon...

They would still be great on Criterion though.
Even though Orson Welles is a weaker film in his filmography, would still be a nice inclusion.
I totally forgot about Bad News Bears! Weird movie...

Non criterion post:

I watched Ghost Dog: Way Of The Samurai last night and thought it was really good. I liked the humor during the film, and good acting performances across the board.

I wish it was that criterion released it on bluray but I think it's with alliance films.

If you liked that film, then you'll probably enjoy Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samouraļ.

Yeah, imagine if you bought a DVD and then a blu-ray came out later? I would have been embarrassed of being ridiculed by the blu-ray community! I would never been able to live with myself afterwards!
