Whenever someone relatively notable in the industry dies, it always pays to double, triple, and quadruple check TCM's schedule (assuming you're planning to record something for late). They will alter their schedule for a tribute marathon at the drop of a hat.

I wish it was that criterion released it on bluray but I think it's with alliance films.
I believe that Lionsgate has the rights in the US.

Criterion just posted video of Richard Ayoade in the closet. We think Submarine or The Double could be coming?

Jack Black is not annoying when you pair him with John Cusack in High Fidelity because Cusack is annoying as hell.

the one time I saw Submarine I didn't have the benefit of subtitles, so that would be nice. plus, the soundtrack is penned by, IMO, the best young song writer working today - Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys

I'm not crazy about buying newer films released by CC, but this one would be cool. I'd get it.

Yeah. I also saw the studio canal name in the opening credits so that makes sense. So it'll never be released now.

I think you're on to something there, SoJr. I really disliked that movie. especially having been shot in Chicago and it having that extra "oomph" factor, if you will. all my friends, music lovers, too, were crazy for it. I thought it was phony and I hated the character's combined taste in music and his taste in women, too, but don't quote me on that cause I don't remember his love interest in the film. I do, however, remember thinking he should just get over it and move onto some better music, too.

Is does come off as phoney. Cusack's love interest was terrible. I don't recall her name but she was wooden.

I've not seen High Fidelity - but love John Cusack in Being John Malkovich - he is so unrecognizable in that film!

Loved that - "...the site of my personal financial ruin" I can relate to that

Very interesting that he loves Zazie... and watches it once a month; do you Americans get The IT Crowd?

Given my recent viewing of The It Crowd, I find it somewhat difficult to take Ayoade seriously. I just see him as Moss.

EDIT: Actually, that's not entirely true. It just surprises me to see him like this.

Laura. I watched it last night. Gained some interest in her after seeing her work in Leave Her to Heaven. She's even more stunning in black and white. Fantastic noir, too. Ordered the blu this morning, along with The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (which I've never seen.)

I wish the avatar was larger, but apparently the site reduced the size limit from here on out.

oh, gosh. I love Laura. the hat threw me off. looked quickly and thought she was a nun or something.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is also a solid flick. Not equal to LHtH or Laura, but still good. I've been meaning to get CC's Heaven Can Wait from the library, but I couldn't find it on their shelves the few times I looked.

GT rocks, though.

What do you mean by "get"? Actually receive or understand? We get it on Netflix and I personally love it.

Good to hear. She is lovely. The Laura DVD I rented had a biography special that was rather thorough with her life, which is just incredibly depressing.

Default Mon Oncle

In case anyone lives near Austin, the Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz is showing Mon Oncle in 35mm in a few weeks as part of a series on David Lynch and where he drew inspirations from. I just purchased my ticket and am looking forward to see the glory of Tati on the big screen.

I thought it was from Plymouth Adventure where she played a Pilgrim.

Fans of the Laura BD should make a point of checking out Vincent Price: The Versatile Villain. It doesn't have a whole lot to do with Laura but it's a great Vincent Price feature.

Ok, I just watched Something Wild, and while it's a good film, I don't understand why this deserved a Criterion Bluray, and another eg. Demme film like The Silence of the Lambs, didn't!
