The next Barnes and Noble Criterion sale is in November right ?

When is the Criterion.com sale usually ?

Also, isn't' a 40% off all Blu- ray sale at Barnes and Noble coming up ?

Is the Criterion Flash Sale 50% off the SRP price, or the Criterion Store price?

Yes. A rat with a fever as one of the Newsletter clues.

Thanks for that. If it's end of September/early October, I might just wait for the B&N sale in November to pick up everything I want, aside from a few new releases I really don't want to wait for.

Just curious, for people who have seen the 312 minute version of Fanny and Alexander, did you watch it in one sitting? Because that seems like intense commitment, I'll probably have to watch it in parts.

Film shouldn't be disrupted. Film should be enjoyed in one sitting. Film.

It is edited like a made for TV mini series. So there are 1.5 hour segments. I watched one a day over a four day period.

I think there is a law of diminishing returns involved. You can only absorb so much new information in a single sitting. More than that and you can't appreciate everything that is being presented. It would be more sinful to forcibly test your endurance and not understand everything you're viewing.

I watched it all in one day, but one episode at a time.

You could, but the great thing about the Criterion sales is that you build up loyalty points and when you hit 500 they give you a $50 gift certificate.
I should be getting mine by the next sale

This.

Though, I've had experience with some positive results going the other way. I saw von Trier's "The Kingdom" at the Detroit Film Theater one day -- though there was a long intermission (many gin and tonics were consumed, natch). And that was pretty fun.

But F&A is so different from that, I can't imagine watching it in one sitting. That doesn't seem like it would be a fun experience.

Come to think of it, I haven't watched that in years. Need to make time soon.

I've never once bought from the Criterion site, and just got into buying Criterions this past B&N sale. Getting most of the films I want down to $15 is better than $20. I think that's better than getting a $50 giftcard.

I watch many movies. That said, I rarely get through them without a break outside of the theater. A rare exception to that was yesterday's first time viewing of The Departed.

That said, I watch mostly "bad" movies, and at points, must reassess things at times. I am also a person that cannot not finish something, even it takes several months, I will get back to it.

I'm thinking for November:

-Midnight Cowboy
-Hellman Westerns Set
-Blue is the Warmest Color
-A Matter of Life and Death
-The Brood
-Bicycle Thieves

All of these are definitely coming, albeit eventually, and they've all gone long enough without a release since the first hint I'd say they're pretty likely to finally emerge.

At first, I thought, "Hey, isn't Blue already out?" Then, I remembered the initial announcement promised a future special edition.

Throw in Mulholland Dr. and that's just about a perfect month, though I have a feeling we'll be getting another box set, possibly an Faith Trilogy upgrade, unless you count the 2 Hellman's as a conventional box.

Also, I may have missed this, but do we have confirmation that A Matter of Life and Death is coming?

Two more future Criterion BD contenders: Salesman and An Angel At My Table (both just added to iTunes in HD).
