Le Trou and Grisbi are among the Studiocanal titles that they got the rights from Criterion so those may never be upgraded, at least not by Criterion, and maybe not even on the US according to the recent announcement of Lionsgate that someone posted here.

Yeah, I posted that Press Release. Lionsgate has made Le Trou and Grisbi available as Amazon exclusive MOD DVD-Rs. Most likely, US Blu-rays aint happening until Lionsgate loses control of the StudioCanal library.

The Most Dangerous Game is currently available on Blu-ray from Flicker Alley. I don't own it but it got a nice user review from The Great Owl and DVD Beaver also liked it. If Criterion were to upgrade it I would hope they added some more extras since the dvd only has a commentary.

General Question: Does Criterion ever release single titles when they are available in Box set collections?

It sadly doesn't seem to be the case.

I presume that you purchased the German import box set which includes Inland Empire and Lost Highway. I purchased it last October and have not regretted it for a second.

No, I got the new zavvi limited steelbook edition, need to check out the one you mentioned though! Inland empire is my favourite lynch film.

Not quite. Both Monterey Pop and Jimi Plays Monterey & Shake! Otis at Monterey are available separately as well as in The Complete Monterey Pop. And certainly in the case of the DVD editions of several sets, at least some, if not all, of the individual films are available separately (like four of the five films in the Cassavettes set).

I would like Five Easy Pieces from that boxset, but I'm not gonna pay for 6-7 movies to get it..

Heh, I just sold my StudioCanal edition in anticipation of Criterion's edition. Might seem premature, now I don't actually own the film for an unknown amount of months (*gulp* years?), but I reckon it will make it even sweeter when I buy it from CC.

I am not a huge fan of that set. I really enjoy The Last Picture Show, but I can truly do without the others.

I just finished De Palma's Sisters. Meh. It's pretty much Rear Window meets a David Cronenberg experiment. Fairly predictable and unoriginal.

I guess the only film I like by him is Passion, another remake / reboot.

It's pretty good and if I recall correctly, I much prefer it to Blow-Up, the inspiration for the film.

Blow Out is, by far, my favorite Brian De Palma film. It looks tremendous on Blu-ray.
