Which is a shame as the digipaks are so nice.
Are you sure that Babette's Feast is also part of it?

I just checked Amazon and I see a new release for the DVD, but the Blu-ray portion of the link sends me to the Australia Blu-ray version of the film.

Just a few more days till announcements!! Wasn't there talk of The Fisher King? I'd like to see Chaplin's The Kid get announced (double featured with A Woman in Paris, his early directorial effort would be wishful thinking)

Its lovely digipak shame to see it being discontinued for a plastic case (if is is happening).

Oh well, least people who love plastic cases will be happy, and as I already have it into a huge issue

My girlfriend is a huge fan of David Fincher and The Game, in particular (which, as you guess, I'm not) and modern "cool" films in general, and she can watch those any day of the week. She's not into auteur cinema AT ALL and is often reluctant to watch movies that came out earlier than 1980 or something )).
At least what we both agree on is David Lynch. We both love his work.

Ironic, I just opened up and watched Babette's Feast the other day. I tore that plastic wrap off as fast as I could without thinking twice that it might be re-released in a plastic edition. Why do I have to worry now that every digipack Criterion releases there might be a plastic replacement case soon to follow? Is this strictly a money-making scheme?

It's a surprisingly smart film that's NOT what you expect.

I doubt they will be replacing every digipack with clear case, since they are still releasing digipacks for some dual editions after they got the three disc plastic cases (Y Tu Mama Tambien) and also for single disc editions (Eraserhead), probably because of the booklet size (Just checked Babette's Feast and it has a pretty thick booklet).

So it would be very odd if they are really rereleasing Babette's Feast on Clear case since the original release was single disc, so it was clearly their intention in the first place to release it as a digipack.

There's no Babette's Feast re-release that I can see, just a DVD as iScottie mentioned earlier.

Seriously, I think the main menu for The Thin Red Line is the best one I've ever seen. It's like a mini film Criterion created. Hans Zimmer's music for that film is probably the best he ever made in his life.

It's easily the most transcendent film-score ever created, simply magical.

I feel like he tried to repeat some of those themes in Inception but it wasn't as good. I'm sure many other composers were influenced by the film score in The Thin Red Line but Zimmer's original score is still the best.

I loved the Inception score, especially the mix of Edith Piaf's Non, je ne regrette rien. (thats what that horn sound is, they slowed down that song to creat that effect). I was disappointed that Shame (great film) did rip off the theme from Thin Red Line, which is quite frustrating and unfair, and I don't think they even credited or mentioned Zimmer.

I think Zimmer is a very talented guy and he has created some incredible scores - my only fault is he doesn't really vary his style much which is a shame - even Philip Glass uses a lot of experimentation despite having that Philip Glass sound in all his works.

Clint Mansell is another great composer, he doesn't stick to same style and does experiment per film, like Philip Glass.

I definitely saw Babettes Feast listed as a preorder alongside The Leopard, I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it though >.<!

I think this is the one I saw:

http://www.dvdworldusa.com/shopexd.asp?id=126804

When I first saw it it had no image or details, so I presumed it was plastic case version but does have blu sticker so I must be wrong, apologies!
